i dont think anyone was taking jabs at you,221 is right,i do have trap doors on my kit boxs but i dont expect my birds to go in that way,99% of the time they will go in when i call them in while i hold the door open and wistl. So what 221 is saying is actually true,if the birds come down when you call them we whouldnt need trap doors. Dont get your feelings hurt its actually good advice.Good luck,,Hector Coya-SGVS ---------- The more i know mankind, the more i love my Dog,

Harrison I think Hector is right ,,,about anybody taking jabs at you...you have to let it go because you will constantly read things the wrong way if you don't ..everything is kool.. ---------- Ralph.

Harrison they are right you can get them in several different ways my birds will trap or come in door if open- but i use the trap more just in case i need to go inside or leave home for a while- most of the time if i whistle and shake feed can they come in-with 5 min. let the remarks just roll off words can hurt but forgive and try to forget- i like your birds lol with them and GOD BLESS ---------- Gentle Johnnie "Angels of the Sky Loft"

Harrison That was tongue in cheek bro. I fly Heine style with no traps and shallow kitboxes I dont have to bend my fat self over into to get a bird. Actually Kenny that is considered English Style, myself I like the traps which is suited best for my set up, but they have to only be used as a point of entry to be closed up once in. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Scott, When I was asked by my wife to "get it all under one roof" I immediately thought of seeing Heines set up online. When he was here he extolled the virtues of flying the English style lofts. It took me about 3 weeks to see why they have a better handle on their birds. My birds are calmer, respond better to my ever changing training methods and are easier to feed. All the things I have been told make a difference in the behavior of my birds I have tried with varying degrees of success but it is better than what I was doing. I designed my loft with comfort for both myself and the birds in mind. Being an inherently fat, lazy, beer swilling, construction working redneck,I made it as easy to cleanas possible, easy to feed and easy to water. The biggest advantage I have seen is I HAVE TO PAY CLOSER ATTENTION TO MY BIRDS. I cant turn em out open the trap and go to work. I have to be there. I have to watch. Therefore I learn. My birds know I am in the loft a lot more now. It is an enjoyable place to be now versus a cramped dark box. I find myself lost in pigeon land for 30-45 minutes at a time. By the same token I have learned a lot about my birds behavior and what I need to make the breeders happier. All they have to focus on is breeding. Everything else they need is served up piping hot with a smile. Why? Because I like being in my loft. I have a cell phone, chairs,a dewalt radio,my tools,a Foys book and 60 rollers. Only other thing I need is neck massage after watching my birds fly. There is a big difference.Be prepared.Change is on the horizon.

Kenny, I am well familular with the advantages of paying attention to the birds which is why I pointed out used as a "point of entry" never do I cut out my birds and leave , but I have been in a position where they fooled me and I had to have the wife get them in. My set up is anything but a dark box and all my interaction with the kits are from the inside of my loft where I can have up to 5 kits of birds in view at all times, I can pinch birds at midnight if I want.

I use traps bcause my young was just flying in and out of the door when i was trapping them. I dont toss my birds out and clear off to let them trap when they land. I let my birds out for me to watch and enjoy. The reason also for the trap is if any stray off they are not lockd out and a sitting duck for cats if they come back. your harrison the cruel UK HULL.

I use open door and yes there is always the chance of a bird comming out again. I trap them with no more than a handful of grain. Only when they are all in do I stand in the doorway and feed them the rest of the ration. If a bird doesn't want to come in because it's taken a knock or whatever, it stays out until all birds are in their kitboxes and then I can go and coax the straggler in. Same with cocks who would rather strut on the loft top. They come in later when they have had time to calm down, lol but with just enough grain to trap them and then straight in the box. They usually trap quicker the next day, if not then the same treatment the following day. I do have a 'trapdoor' but rarely need to use it. If a straggler lets itself in through the trapdoor it is in the corridor with the waterer, and is the only pigeon in danger if a cat managed to get in.

hi all i too use the open door system like 0021 said on another post if your not going to be there to get them in dont fly them.also like harrison said cant cats get in the traps???.but i think v99 hit it bang on when he said the more time you have with your birds the more you get out of them.they also get to know you .last year when i had the s/africans here with me they were amazed how my birds responded to me calling them down.1 night i got a phone call + took it in the house.when i came out 1 of the africans was trying to call my birds in.but they took no notice.so he asked me to try .i swear as soon as i shouted them they landed.that was our talking point for the night.the lads said they knew my birds responded to my call.just wish the bstds would do it all the time lol.its like v99 said spending as much time as possible with them.rod i never get birds that want to stay out except now + again very y/brds that have just started going on the loft top.to me if they dont come straight in its down to bad managment not the system.

hi Ralph. bcause my breeders are on breed and whean corn. And with them only just coming out of the breeders not long ago they havent been flying. So i dont see the point in putting them on flying rashions. now there doing ten o so mins i will change it over and get them flying fit. Its what i did last year and it works for me. yours harrison.

Traps are good for when something comes up and you can't wait around for all your birds to go in.
Iv had a lot of times when I couldn't stick around for the last few birds to get in so I just leave the trap door open and let them go when they do.
