It depends, Did the birds get hit by a predator? Then its going to take a long time for some to come back to the kit box. If your flying for competition? One would hope that you prepared your kit to work at least 30-45 minutes ( a working team ) .
So my answered would be from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on circumstances, such as whether, barometer, humidity and predators and the type of feed given to your birds.

my birds are train never to stay more than 3 minutes when land.or they don't eat for that day...maybe a sprinkle but they sure wish they had came in fast..
----------now in the sky it depends how hungry they are can take ten minutes after I whistle sometimes 5..in the sky I find them more stubborn than when land.sometimes they don't even respond which tells me ok you had too much to eat..your feed gets cut..

Why are you so concern about how long it takes them to trap? I would be more concern if they scored 800 points instead.

I am kinda like Ralph. The stragglers dont get to eat. Birds sitting on a kitbox are one thing... targets.

Paul R, I agree, Its alot harder to manage starving pigeons. When You fly your rollers, if all they have on there minds is eating, You'll start all kinds of bad habits. I say train them to fly, kitt and be strong on the wing first.

Brick,

If you do fly two teams you should fly them on different days. I know that Is what I do in region 9B...if there are two kits they are flown on different days....if that cant be done....they are flown first and last...

If your birds are flying for three hours or even an hour on competition day..you dont have them set up right...unless a BOP is around they should be in the air an hour at the most and ready to come down.

It is in your best interest to enter two kits and fly them on different days of the competition....that way if you have lets say...shitty weather on one fly day (wind)...you may get a chance to fly your second kit on a good day.....you odds go up with two kits.....if for some reason that a bird does not trap....and you HAVE to put up your team.....then the judge will see that you have one extra bird and each break will be deducted one bird if the extra bird joins the team

rock and ROLL

Paul

But using birds not trapping as an excuse to not fly two kits is not a good excuse...LOL...

Last year I had my young birds flying from a section of my sh.
They would do 30/to35 mins and drop.
Within 2 mins they would be in.
Just hope they do the same this year to the new kit I have.
I have been putting them through the bob wires(trap) for about 3 days and let them out this morning.
It took them about 7mins to go in.
Yours harrison.

I agree.
Never have your birds starving.
There is no need to.
If the birds are traind properly then they should be ok.
Starving birds is just a way of pushing all the training to one side.
Just my view anyways.

When I say trap its a small exit at the front of the kit.
with a landing board.
4 wires that only move one way.
That is inwards.
Been the birds can enter but not come back out.
I am only using this untill my birds get abit older then I will just use the door.
With them still been young they are abit excited.
And are flying back out before all are in.
The trap saves all the messing about and stops me from getting stressd out.
Yours harrison uk hull.
