0221 asked what and how much? Thats good question and makes a difference.
Peas take longer than milo to pass through digestion, wheat is in the middle, barley passes slower, pellets faster. Also regardless the type of seed, If overfed the seed will not be processed (digested) in the same time as when fed only the amt needed. The body can only handle so much at once. The grains are digested at a certain rate, so if increased feed volume surpasses the rate that they can be digested in, there will still be feed in the crop the following day awaiting digesting no matter whatkind seed.
It is my observation, if fed a normal ration of wheat, it will pass from the crop being digested in 12-16 hrs. It will still be in the body, stomach and intestines, but past the crop.
Brad is right, it takes a few (2-3) days for feed to be metabolized. If you feed peas, it takes about 3 days for the nutritional changes to be effective. Milo metabolizes faster, 1.5 - 2 days. Metabolism and digestion are 2 different processes. Digestion is the break down into the nutritional molecules, metabolism is the cells use of the nutrients to generate energy and body functions. ---------- Jon

Mikea, feeding normal ration wheat and milo (1tbls) it will take 12-16 hrs to pass from the crop. It will still be in the bird for unknown time until it poops it out. The nutritional effect from that feeding wont be realized until 36-70 hrs after feeding.
I was referring to whole barley. Barley also absorbs moisture in the gut and makes bird weigh more, It is high in fibre. ---------- Jon
