RECENTLY MY BEST PERFORMING ROLLER PICKED UP THIS BAD HABBIT OF DISAPEARING WHEN I LET THEM OUT,AND ONLY RETURNS LIKE 1 HOUR LATER,IV TRIED KEEPING HIM IN A FEW DAYS,EVEN WEEKS,AND ALSO TRIED FLYING HIM HUNGRY BUT IT DIDNT HELP,I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO GET RID OF IT BECAUSE FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS IT GAVE ME MUCH JOY WATCHING IT DO INSANE ROLLS AND GOOD CONTROL,MUCH BETTER THEN THE REST,BUT NOW IS DISAPEARING AND ALSO STARTING TO LACK CONTROL,DO I STOCK THIS BIRD NOW AND BREED WITH IT BECAUSE OF ITS GREAT ROLL,OR WHAT????

First off is this bird one that you got from somone els or did you bread the bird your self? Secondly has this bird ever gone missing long anougth for somone to have had it in there shed? If so he could be paired up to a hen and goes to see her when you let him out. O if somone close by has one of them open dove coops were the doves have the choice of going in and out as they wish. He could have found an hen there. Also he could be going to a local farmers field picking up minerals and grit. Just a few options of what he could be doing whilst going AWOLL. I would make sure he has grit all thetime and pair him up just to see if that solves the problem. Dont stock him bcause of this reason. If you think he his stock qualitey the shouldnt be going out in the frst place. I wish you all the look in the world and I hope I have helpt you. Yours in roll and sport Harrison uk hull.

It's not a team player so I would cull it. Birds have to be team players and do everything the same unless they are just learning to roll. If they are out of the kit beacuse they are learning that's temporarily okay but if they continue and get worse they have a mind of their own. If it's older and stronger than the rest of your kit that's a different issue, he could be getting more to eat and stronger and more adventuresome.

Keep it in now untill the young are old anougth to fend for themself bcause one day he may not come back. Maybe the time you keep him in may help him forget his bad habbits. I deffo wouldnt kill it for this reason. Make sure you no what you bread out of him(RIGHT IT IN A BOOK) i do all my birds. The reason I say this is so if the young get bad habbits you can go to the book and no its what he bread and cull from there. If you dont write it down you will not no were the habbits come from and then wont no what to cull. This causing bad habbits to bread right through your shed. good look mate. yours in roll harrison uk hull. SORRY ABOUT SPELLING. hope you can understand?

Well there's got to be some explanation then. What's changed for him that hasn't changed for your other birds? Please don't take this the wrong way but there are only two things it can be - either its his fault or your fault (management). If I knew it was my fault I might go ahead and breed the bird but if I knew it was his fault I would not. Starve him down a bit and see if that reigns him back in. Usually when my birds get stupid it's cause they are overfed, which is my fault. JMHO.

I GET YOUR POINT PUMPKIN,THE THING IS I CANNOT FIGURE OUT IF ITS MY FAULT OR HIS,THE ONLY CHANGE THAT I CAN THINK OF OR SEE IS THAT ITS THE 1ST TIME THAT HE IS LAYING ON EGGS,I DOUBT THAT IS THE PROBLEM BUT THATS THE ONLY THING THAT IS NEW TO THAT COCK.BUT I UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT SO THANK YOU 4 THE REPLY.

The bird might of bounce with out you knowing and might have brain damage. Same thing has happened before. Keep a good eye on him and check if he his tail close, head swollen, broken feathers. Resting him for 1 month to see if it helps.

A friend had one that diasppeared for a day sometimes. I flew it at my place and it never did it here. I also had one of my own come back late and found it was eating at this persons backyard. This person was leaving wild bird seed on the ground for birds. I eventually had to destroy that one because it would pearch on a neighbors roof who did not want pigeons on his home. The latter one was eventually culled due to performance issue. Check the crop of your bird. ---------- "The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance -- it is the illusion of knowledge."

You stated that he has started to have control problems. He might be hitting the ground without you knowing and sitting on the neighbors roof. next time out watch him closely and follow him if you can and see where he is going. ---------- MJ

Hey shukz you might be under feeding him. I use to have a kit that did that and it was due to underfeeding them. I feed them up and they flew in sight again they will also go alittle higher but back to normal in a few days if not you can adjust the feed a few days later. This has work for me and you can try it and see if it works for you. ---------- Good Game Loft

Shukz. I know some people will do it, but in my loft, and every other roller guy I know, flying out birds from the breeding loft while they are breeding is a definate no no. If you have him in good breeding condition by giving all the food he needs, (which you should be doing if he is breeding) he could be rolling with a full crop which could make him vomit while rolling. This could make him roll down or land anywhere he can. Once a bird is feeding young, you risk loosing the parent, and so the young will not be raised properly with one parent missing. I have found that if a bird starts to get a bit dangerous in the roll, and then goes missing, most times it is either rolling down, or simply diving onto the nearest roof for safety, and sitting there until it feels safe to return. Do you have to flag him out of the kit box? Do this too often, and some birds will not return to the box for fear of being flagged off again. Also, if it breaks away at height you should see it go, if low down you most likely will miss it leaving the kit and it could be sitting on the other side of a neighbours roof or in a tree. Finally if you don't watch the birds flying you will continue to have problems, and will not know the cause. Yours in the hobby, Pete

In my opinion,Michel Salus is the only one that got the answer right,LOL When a bird disapears like that and you say hes had control probles latly,He most likly is getting too deep and is sceard to fly,so he goes down the street and lands on a pole until the kit comes down. Ive seen it before and thats a deep bird getting deeper by the day. Hector Coya-SGVS ---------- The more i know mankind, the more i love my Dog,

First of all Welcome shukz,,I agree with evryone but mostly with Pete ,flying out birds while breeding is a no no...you say you can't figure out if its you or the bird..you say "THERE WAS ALOT OF NEAR MISSES,AND IM NOT ALWAYS OUTSIDE WATCHING,SO IT IS A POSSIBILITY. right there is your answer its management..you always keep your eyes on your birds at all time if you can't don't fly them..now check this out if a bird was good for me and after three years it started acting up.I mean if its wasn't mismanagement on my part ..I wouldn't want to stock it because that bird is showing he don't have the heart in the long run and thats what I'm looking for to stock my birds ...birds that show the good after 2 or 3 years ..good luck what ever you decide.. ---------- Ralph.
