I call it Mahogany. It's a red check that is dirt/not clean in pattern.....a spread blue/black in it would be my guess. Look back through color pattern of parents. bwinward

Umm.. both parents were rec. yellow selfs, and I'm 100% sure about that because they were in breeder pens. :)

I think BWinward has it right. This looks like a Ash Red carrying blue. The spread modifies the pattern and creates what I call a dun. The yellow in the parents is just a mask of what their true color is.

Andrew, It is not a dun since dun is the dilute of black (blue spread). The first one looks like an ash red check carrying blue and either dirty or sooty. Hard to tell because the pics are dark. From the appearance in the picture, I would say the second one is the same. Look like Niebel's? ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

I would say the bird is Ash Red carrying blue. Ash red expresses itself in alot of different ways and that is what you are seeing. That is also what some call a Dun and I have heard refered to as "roller dun". Dun is like Sunflower stated a dilute of Black and does not have ash red in it. Look in Levi,s book The Pigeon and it will show you the true dun. You will also notice that a dun will have short down in the nest and an ash red will have long down. A bit late to check on this bird but I would bet it had long down in the nest. joe ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/
