I have a kit of 20young birds that are doing very well for me but i am have a problem with them swinging to far at least 6blocks in every direction they only fly around the house for the last 15 or 20 of the fly have anyone else had this problem if so what did you do to curve this behavior ? i feed 17% because they are still very young they have been flying for a lil over to months

Jerry,

I wouldn't worry to much. Young birds do all kinds of funky stuff. This is how they learn. I have a feeling they are just testing their area... which is a good thing as they will be bettered homed in.

Now if they start flying the 'S' pattern while low like mine right now, you need to start worrying :) Getting attacked every day while coming in to land by the resident female aids in the reinforcement of this pattern.

Young birds usually grow out of things real quick... have fun watching them.

If you have an older hen or two you could fly them with the young kit. I always have a few older hens or even a cock just to keep them close to home as I have them drift alot when young. If it is a bit breezy they can drift and get lost. I lost a few young kits to drifting too far, when they were extremely active the way young kits do. You know when they all break or dive or go down with the kit. Its like nobody is driving the car and they are all in the back seat. Then they wonder " Where in the heck are we!" and you start getting one or two back each hour that passes. Now I always have a few hold over birds in with young ones all year. Bill C

I do the same way Bill plus it teaches them to fly in a good pattern than just going in circles or s mode when like out flying on their own.. I always throw in an adult to show the way ...
