Once upon a time there was this breeder and flier of Birmingham Rollers who we will call Joe who found a friend that drew an interest in having; breeding; and flying Birmingham Rollers himself who we will call Bob. The found friend, Bob was having difficulty in locating reasonable stock to start his new found love of wanting to fly rollers. Bob worked hard in setting up the facilities required to breed and fly these beautiful little creatures and upon witnessing this the breeder and flier of Birmingham Rollers, Joe was compelled to give up some breeder stock to the found friend. Joe broke up a pair that was not producing enough of the goods to suit him and felt it was the cock bird of the pair that was the culprit. Along with some other birds he brought that culprit of a cock bird to Bob to either fly or try in his breeding program. Not thinking much of it he returned to his on loft and paired the hen to a proven cock. As time went on what was being produced from that pairing did not meet the standards he was wanting. In no time it was realized by Joe that he had passed the wrong bird off to Bob. In an attempt to reclaim the cock bird he went to Bob’s and discovered that he was using the culprit cock bird in his breeding program and discovered that the off spring from him were winners. Joe casually stated that he made a bad mistake and should have kept that what once thought to be the culprit cock bird, but made no demands because the cock bird had become part of Bob’s breeding program.
Life goes on in this hobby. A mistake here and a mistake there is what most of us face. This was no different. These kind of things happen.
The two friends traveled together to visit other breeders and fliers and watched several kits fly; sometimes many miles away. On one such trip Joe noticed a winner spinner and was noticeable awed by its performance. So taken by that bird’s performance it was often talked about between the two on their drive home.
Both Joe and Bob returned to their respective homes and both went on with their lives making it one day at a time. Joe worked with his rollers and took care of his family; went to work as usual and the time went on as time does. Bob did the same.
Then one day Bob showed up at Joe’s home unexpectantly. It was noted by Joe that Bob was caring a box of sorts in his hands and it caused some curiosity to raise up in Joe‘s mind of just what could the box contain. Bob said he had something for Joe and handed the box over to him to examine. He opened the box and found two pair of eyes looking back at him. To Joe's profound astonishment one pair of eyes belonged to the culprit cock bird that he mistakenly gave away and the remaining pair of eyes belonged to the winner spinner that weeks before he so raved about. Bob, unbeknownst to Joe had returned to the loft the bird was first seen by the two and purchased the bird for Joe. Bob also knew that Joe really wanted that culprit bird back. Bob had brought the culprit cock bird back to Joe and then added the winner spinner as thanks for helping him get started.
My Lord, can it get any better than that!?
This is a true story that has been changed a bit to make it fit and of course the names have been changed Wonderful things can happen in this hobby that goes untold. This struck me as one of those stories that should be told. How good can a man’s heart be that would do such a thing? Great people abound in this hobby; stories that never get told of them and about them. But, great people never the less. What makes this such a great story is that Bob didn’t think anything about it; felt it was something that should be done, so why not do it. Even though this did not happen to me or with me I will remember Joe and Bob forever and I am positive that Joe will never forget Bob.

Wonderful story Nick...thats the kind of heart I'm talking about give without regret.not like joe's heart that hurted him when he found out what he gave to Bob but that's understandable.but unlike the heart of bob who gave without thinking twice no regrets.. ---------- Ralph.
