Hey All, I'm having some problems with the trees directly behind my kit box. I can't cut the trees so I'm thinking of moving my kit box slightly. The new location would be 15' forward 35' to the left, and rotate the box 90 degrees. Now, my question, will it hinder the birds that have been homed to the old location? Input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Thom

Thom, They will adapt pretty quickly. Last year I built a new loft next to the old one. At first they would land on the roof of the old loft but after about a week, they figured it out and only an occasional bird would land on the old one until I tore it down. ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

Thom you could simply turn them another direction and it will screw up their little worlds, when I used to use standing kit boxes I could move them five ft and the team would sit on the breeder loft staring in dis belief at the spot where it was LOL ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Joe, Thanks, it has to be done but I wish I had thought of it earlier.:( Scott, That is what I was afraid of. After the move, I'm going to let them find their way out onto the kit box and just sit if they will. Worse case scenario, I have a flat roof on my house and they are used to landing first on the house roof and then dropping to the kit box. I don't mind as long as it is just my roof but this is another reason for the move. It will make it easy to catch them after dark! lol Thom

All my kitboxes are on wheels and I have moved them with me from 2 previous residences. I bought the wheels from Home Depot and screwed them to the bottom of a 4x4 stud post. Fortunate for me there are always large slabs of cement out back where-ever I live, this makes it easy to move the kitboxes around.
....well anyway
Young birds can easily home in on visionary objects they recognize quickly... especially their living quarters. It all depends on how smart they are and how well you have trained them.

Thom... it sounds like you have very intelligent birds. That's a good thing. I strongly feel it's a necessity to have smart rollers in this business. The smarter they are... the more fun you can actually have with them. Just like children!

Scott,Cow bell! LOL, My neighbors think I'm crazy enough already! But I bet your birds can hear it from far up. Marcus, I think the birds are smarter then I am. I released them the other night in dead calm. Twenty minutes later there was a storm rolling in fast. It was windy, and I could see rain coming up the river. The kit was about 200' when I started calling them with the rattle. They dropped almost immediately to just over the loft made a few passes then landed. Three minutes later all were in the box looking for their tray. I gave them a small reward but made them wait for their supper! :) It made all the standing and rattling everyday worthwhile! Thanks, guys! Thom

Joe, It's not pretty but I have some very tolerant neighbors! They just shake their heads, laugh, wave, then run back into their house. I can only assume they lock the door!LOL Thom

Hey if I can stand on my hilltop in SpongeBob Boxers and flip flops ringing a cow bell while looking skyward I don't see an issue with you in your Jammies ---------- Just my Opinion Scott
