bad management will drive any bird from being great to garbage.....management is the key.....25% family and 75% management for me....JMHO

You have to train and manage them right if you want the birds to be successful.

vhawk, Being old doesn't make you smart and I'm no pro. I'm like you, just trying to learn all I can. I did not mean to sound boosie. I was just pointing out it's available and has a lot of good information.
I'm sorry if you thought I was being short with you.

Management is the key, but also the birds have to have the goods also or managment means nothing.
Everybody breeds culls not worth a plug nickle out of even their top pairs, it is nn sence to think other wise.

Over time, no matter what family of birds your work with, the birds that adapt to the conditions in which you fly them including climate, management, and how you feed, are the birds that you will keep around. Good birds are not hard to come by if you find the good people in the hobby. Learning how to fly and breed them to keep them good is another story. Many newcomers get birds from reputable breeders and then after a few years they trash the breeder they got them from instead of realizing that it is themself who has screwed the birds up. You have to learn how to fly a kit first and be very patient. When I think back to the exceptional birds I flew away due to mismanagment, as well as some of the good breeders I let go to waste by not knowing what to do with them, it is not a fun thought. But we all have to go thru this learning process and some of us have to learn a harder way then others. Newcomers nowadays have many more resources and support, such as RPDC, to tap into the when I started. Be patient and become a sponge by learning and listening. But most of all make sure you don't get too serious to the point that it takes the fun out of this great hobby. Good Luck
