I think a majority of people will say that this will all depend on the family of birds you have. I know that in my own family, color balancing is a factor to take into consideration when breeding. In my family, two blue checks will create either stiff birds or very infrequent/shallow rollers...something I wouldn't want.

In my family "color" has nothing to do with my birds performance... Go for it, don't be afarid to experiment. I breed by performance, not by color. Just my opinion

I have been schooled that if you breed hard color birds to hard color birds and soft color birds to soft color birds, you will lose frequency, velovity, or depth over time because that particular gene might be affected by doing this. ---------- DJJeffman Spinners

According to Norm Reed himself, he does color balance his birds. Hard color to soft color. I have Norm's old line birds as well.

I have heard Hard feather to hard feather will make them go stiff over time and that at one point you will hit the wall.Thats why some family's can be messed up so easy.Canarie breeder's won't breed hard to hard very often if ever because it mess'es up the song I know there not pigeons but if it mess'es with the song then I can see how it can mess with the roll .
