When I lived in California I was kept busy enough with other roller guys and functions I did not need competition to be amoungst them. Moving to Eastern Arkansas there was just one roller guy within 70 miles of me and I was lonely in the hobby. Competing put guys in my yard and becoming an RD put me in thier back yards. That is how I got fulfilled in the hobby after moving. If I had stayed in California I probably would never had competed.

Competing has been good to me.

Right on Nick, For me it has been the other way around. I was always isolated, when I moved outta L.A at age 20. I do it because I love a challenge and to improve my stock birds, plus there are some classic folks in this hobbie/sport. I flew for my own enjoyment for years i just started to compete and now kinda re thinking the whole "GIG" LOL. But I still lovit and lookfoward to the future Ill just maby limit my exposure to only one major fly a year and club flys... Have a good one and best of luck...1

I retired and my daughter was working in Memphis so my wife and I decided to live closer to her. I have brought two guys to roller pigeons since living here. One lives in Hernando, MS and the other lives 50 miles north of Memphis. I gave my kit birds to a couple of guys in Marysville, CA. I brought my breeders to Arkansas in a covered Uhaul trailer. I have since passed those breeders on to guys in western Arkansas. I have changed families to Thibodeaux's and the Black Hen Family (Gary Taylor). I should be able to start competing with them next fall.

We missed at the 2009 Convention. The convention was not the same as previous years without you. I was told that you called Paul at the last minute and canceled your attendance.

Yes I did. Had something come up that changed my plans. I had it all set up to go visit my old friends in the evening. Sacremento area was one of my old stomping grounds; spend several years there.

Nick you are a true friend hell we even slept together!!! I've seen your birds and it will not be long before you are in the drivers seat. I can still remeber your face expressions when I introduced myself at the Texas Picnic as "Turkey Buzzard". With the Arkansas Club in place. It will not be long before your state will be one of the ones everyone will want go too. Hell why don't you and Sal host a NBRC Convention.

Bwinward, competing has been good for me because it has put pigeon people in my house and backyard and has put me into the homes and backyards of pigeon people. The birds is what brings us together on common ground, but it is the people that is the highlite.

Carl, as just Turkey Buzzard you stirred up some shit and nobody knew where it was coming from. If you will remember I guessed what state you lived in because of the "swagger" I sensed in your posts. It was a Texas swagger.(LOL) I think this region has an opportunity to really advance as a roller spot. Ferrell Bussing is one of the hardest working people I know and he gets very little credit for what he does for the hobby. He is a big part of this region and has become someone I can fully trust and count on. Carl, you too are a true friend of mine.

I had pigeons as a kid. Not rollers just commies like many here.
When I decide to get pigeons again, I wanted to DO something with them. Not just a bunch of cooing, pretty, flying rats. The compition aspect is why I have rollers. I like the management, the training, and hanging out and flying with other roller guys. In a couple more years I hope to be competitive with Guil Rand, Jay Starley, Bob Adams, Brad Winward and Adam Hill.
To say the least, at least for me if it was not for competion pushing me, I would be bored, and go fishing more. lol

Nick, I agree! The man is the driving force in this region.

Carl, I agree! Soon Nick will take this state over with his new brood stock! I think Nick can also put on a good convention if he is just given some time to set it up with Ferrell's help.. LOL

If I was to do a convention..............blah, blah, blah.

We would only ride around in buses one day. The second day other things would be scheduled....hint, hint for the next convention provider.
