Hi guys haven't been on for a while but I have another baby roller problem,. Have anyone experienced squabs that are doing good, will get 1/2 to 3/4 grown, than stop growing, they stay small and active just don't grow any more, the parent birds will still feed them but the young bird will eventually go light weak and die. some will come out of the nest act fine running around on the loft floor may even start to eat a little on it's own, but still just doesn't come into form. What I am lacking. Lew

Patience, maybe. If they are being feed and are eating on their own at times I could not begin to understand what the problem could be. Over the last several years I have had a similar problem and they would end up dying. I just kind of wrote it off to a failure to survive. ---------- Just My Take On Things

I kind of thought the same thing but I have had several do it this summer, a couple have been from really good parent birds that have always raised their young, I have tried giving them 4 and 1 and also foys no light pills, a couple of them came out of it the rest have died, I currently have 2 from different nest, small and not growing, they seem to stop growing and when the parents lay another nest the babies are no where big enough to wean, I have pulled the eggs and made the parent birds care for them longer which did help 1 the other died, so I'm thinking something's not right. I use a tsp to gal of apple cider vineger in their water all the time, could this be causing it? Anyone else have this problem? Lew

Don't know about the apple cider vineger. I just give to all my birds once a month for three days and then back to plain water. If using ACV 24/7 is something you have always done it probably is not the cause. If you have just been doing it within the year you might want to try removing the ACV from the water for awhile and see if your problem goes away. ---------- Just My Take On Things

Before you start your breeding program every year, you need to put them on preventative medication for 10 days to prevent any problems during the stress of the breeding season. The best thing to do is put the birds on Amoxicillin and mix it with Ridzol for 10 days before any breeding season. This will be the only time you will ever medicate you birds and you will never have issues during the season if you continue keeping rodents out of the loft.

Lou, when your squabs are big and fat(9 nine days), pick them up,band them, use vasolinne if you have to,then check their nestbowl for things that mite be sqiurming around. If theres anything moving in that nestbowl either than the pigeons you have IMO 2 choices.#1 pour 2 tablespoons of ammonia to gallon of fresh water, make sure all birds have a drink, get rid of squabs and parents, and start scrapping.#2 burn the loft to the ground.JMO.Glen

I have been looking for small crawly things also, but haven't seen anything, I keep my loft sprayed and use mite sprays on the birds. Nest bowls are dry and babies are good at that that age, Mice I do have a problem with. Any other thoughts? Lew

I just lost another little one, this one had been wormed, I gave it 4 and 1, gave it foy's no lite pills, it chased its parents seeking to be feed which the parents did feed him, but not well, It continued to get weaker and finally died, the baby was 6 weeks old, fully feathered, not much bigger than a sparrow, just wouldn't grow any more, I am at a loss, anybody have an idea of why. I have had 5 baby's do this now, all from different parents, the next nest's that were raised without any problems. Anybody else experience this? Lew

far too many peaple medicate just for the sake of it and or somebody elses advice. Birds like any other animal develope imunities to medications so my advice is use as needed. Wormers and Cancer treatment are not so bad so long as they are used AS NEEDED. You use medications just for the sake of it and you will have birds immune systems breaking down. JMHO. Lew, I would suggest you send in a fresh stool sample for testing. Testing would be the easiest, fastest and probably the cheapest way to find out what is going on with your birds. Check with the pigeon shops and find out who offers testing. Let us know what you find out. Tracey

Thank you katyroller that's good advice, If I get another one that go's the same way I check into it. J.M. Not sure what your saying, but either way I had the same result, I did nothing on the first one, this last one I tried to help it, it still died. But I do appreciate the help. Sometimes no matter what is done, can still loose them, something wasn't right with them. Lew
