How come proven rollers are worth more like 50-100 a piece and their direct offsprings are worth less when they are capable of the same thing? (because they are from a proven pair)..just a question..

The word "proven" is what makes that bird worth more.their direct offsprings have to be proven because not every offsprings is going to come out with the same gene which is rolling properly having the heart and a bird not control by the roll.. so this is why you pay more for a proven bird.. ---------- Ralph.

Lew3015 good question. I would personally go and see the bird in person. Other than that I guess from word of mouth from other satisfied customers.

When someone has been fortunate enough to avoid BOP's, weather, etc. and fly out a good roller that you can pick out of the air that is a huge difference then getting a squeaker out of the same bird. The key word is proven. The best birds in the air are not gauranteed to produce like, as well as with squeakers you run the same risk the guy that flew the proven bird out did- losing the bird to mother nature or other factors. You never will know if the squeaker is capable of the same as the parents until you fly it out. In my mind a bird isn't proven until it has been flown out at least 1 1/2 years so it reaches full maturity and has gone through molts and still is a good spinner. Easy to stock a bird that is coming in to the spin great, but if you don't fly it out to maturity you don't know what you really are stocking. With BOP's it is not easy to fly a bird out this long, but if you can it is beneficial to do so. A proven bird is a bird you can go see in the air and it does what you like. I recommend seeing it a couple times before you get too excited. A exceptional proven bird in the hand is worth many squeakers that have to be flown out! Don M.

Proven birds could be those birds that already competed and "proved" themselves that they have "it."
On a lighter note, it could be birds that you have seen flying in the sky and have the characteristics that Tony listed on this site.
Offspring are cheaper because you don't know whether they have inherited the good gene from their parents. It is still a gamble. They are not yet "proven" themselves.

A proven spinner to me is not worth much more than the unflown squeker which still has to prove his worth in the air. A proven breeder that produces a high rate of spinners year after year is what is worth something, and I don't think you will find many those for sale. ---------- Ty Vapor Trail Lofts

I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said. But,I will add, just because a pair is proven it doesn't mean that all their off-spring will be good

macsrollers is right on the money... A Rollers ability is likened to a racing homers ability, the good gene is passed on to the young bird through it's parents but it is up to the young bird and the flier to tap into those abilities through training and practice. A Racing Homer cannot win a 600 mile race right out of the nest! it must be tossed from various distances and trained like a pro sprinter. So it is the same with Rollers, they must be flown regularly to help them tap into those genes and master that skill. Only through practice and repetition can a Roller earn the title of "Proven". And it must be witnessed through your eyes first. Ronnie. ---------- Promoting The Birmingham Roller The Greatest Aerial Acrobat! Come Fly With Us!

The word Proven in livestock or animals..means that it has succeeded at a higher then normal level of excellence for whatever you are trying to do with that animal.
A proven kit bird- A bird that has proven itself in the air for at least a year and a half or two seasons.....the bird has made it through every phase of development and is a strong member of the team.
A proven kit bird has done and continues to do the job that it was meant to do...Now Proven to one is different for another...you must look at the make up of ones stock loft as well as teams in the air to make sure that a persons PROVEN bird meets your definition of proven.
NOw one commented above that a Proven birds means nothing in the stock loft and is no better then a squeeker...I have to disagree...a squeeker is just a ball of potential..it may or may not do it in the air...but in this game you are playing the odds and %..the odds of a Proven kit bird producing are higher then that of a squeeker...so the dollar amount should be higher.
As far as proven breeder...again...a breeder to me is not proven until it has produced good birds on different mates...and a higher then normal percentage of good birds...a proven breeder is just that...it will produce good birds....A good indicator is that it is still in ones stock loft after years of breeding....now a CLICK pair is above and beyond a proven breeder...or a bird that produces on everything...there is no dollar amount on a proven breeder...it is based on how bad you want it and how much you are willing to pay.
The only time you see proven breeders go bye bye...is when one is downsizing or like me...you prove in some younger pairs or birds in the stock loft and out with the old and in with the new.
