Thanks Dennis, I'm thinking of adding one more section and fixing the fly pen so it will slide from section to section.

vhawk, I did not keep track of the materials cost. It first started life as a transition home for my birds that were on order from Tony. It had to come back out of my shop, which is also my brood loft. I used it the first year as my breeding pens but I built it with the thought of turning it into a kit box. With my shop and at today's prices, I would guess about one hundred dollars. The truth is, the birds don't care. As long as they are dry, have good ventilation, in a mouse proof, safe from predators enviorenment. it does not need to be fancy. Thom

wow send me some to the UK.LOL. Could I recomend you build thelanding pole another 6ft as the the cats dont have a chance to get the birds. As thats the reason for landing poles. The roller men from years ago used them all the time. The would get the birds when they were unable to fly and put them up on the pole using a long pole. Then get them down later on. The reason been the men could go out and leave there kit flying and when they would come back there would be the kit of rollers sat on the landing pole waiting to be let in. I read about this. Bill Penson was a big fan of the pole. I think it also as another meaning but carnt remember. but its a great idea. It said in the write up about it you need lots of time as the birds would always fall down and you had to put them back up. I also believe they would use a trainig pole and as they got bigger put them on the bigger pole. On some of the old pictures on the net you can see there is two diffrent size poles. I will see if I can find it. sorry for boring you harrison uk hull.

Hey Harrison, I used the landing pole for a short time because my landing board is small. It gave the birds a place to gather just before trapping. I still like it for the young birds when they are learning but the old birds don't need it. You are never boring! :) I look forward to your posts, even if you are "Harrison the Cruel"! Great Big Smile! Sorry my friend but your gentle nature shows through your no longer "The Cruel" :) Thom

Hey Thom how do you like using the pvc elbow's for the traps?? How do you keep them fastened so they dont slip or fall?
I am considering using them for my kitbox.

hey Thom, what is the roof material? i like it alot. i'm sort of regretting using fibreglas shingle for my double kitbox roof because its so heavy, and i had to deal with teh roofing nails sticking thru into the box. ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY

Hey Steve, SD has the same material on his box, it is Ondura. Read his posts on the new kit box thread, he explains it better then I could. The only thing I could add is an affirmation. I like it a lot, it's cheap and an easy install. Thom

Thanx, Thom. that Ondura is really perfect roofing material for kitboxes, or lofts for that matter. where is it sold? you're in Ohio, right? i haven't seen it in homedepot.

Hey Steve, I got mine at Lowes but I'm certian HomeDepot carries it also. At Lowes, it's not with the roofing, but near the drain pipes and gutters. Go figure! I would ask at HomeDepot, or go on line and search their web site. Thom

i previously had used some clear plastic corrugated stuff that looked like the ondura, but it wasn't, and it sucked. wish i had known about this stuff BEFORE i finished my kitbox. did you use it on your stock loft also? ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY

Steve, My stock or brood loft is attached to my house. It is in my shop, ( birds love the table saw) so I did not use that style roofing. If I built a separate loft, I would most certianly consider using it. Thom
