hi all. had an interresting discussion with mr dickie hammer, last night he is a pigeon fancier from holland about the use of apple cider vinegar.he said that the continued use of apple cider will lead to the hens laying soft shell eggs in about 2 to 3 years down the line. i have experienced this recently with 1 of my hens.has anybody heard of this or had any similar problems.

hi morne, if ACV is used corecttly, it cant harm your birds. i have used it for years, the correct dose is one teaspoon to one litre of water and you should only give it to them once a week. if you have on-going problems in your loft, i would give it to them twice a week. in regards to the soft-sheeled eggs it's more calcium related. i give my birds pigeon pallets while breeding and that has all the rihgt nutrients which are ballanced. there is no need to give any aditives. if you're feeding your birds grains, you should always have an avaliable grit and pick stones and some calcium syrup in the water prior to your breeding and continued throughout your breeding season. ----------

I mix a tbs to a 20 oz bottle of water at least once a day. I will swear by it! When I drink it consistantly, it has helped my stomach, arthritis, and my blood pressure considerably. Got people I work with takin it and they say they have noticed a difference in the way they feel. One hasn't had a sinus infection in a year and a half. ---------- Val

Hey All, I use the A.C.V. (with the mother) Bragg's for the birds and myself. I have had no trouble when giving it to the birds. When I'm taking it myself, I make a tea of 1 tbs. of A.P.C. and 1 tbs. of honey in eight oz. of water. That gives the equivalent of 19 of the 22 minerals essential for human health in exactly the right amounts. Thom

Hey oldfart,
I use the same thing. What do you reckon "The Mother" is? Probably just a marketing trick. Either way I figure it's the real deal good stuff from all the organic sediment floating around in the bottom of the bottle.

Hey Pumpkin Man, I'm not 100% sure but I think the sediment is the mash (crushed apple) that was used to start the fermentation process. The point being that when you can see the sediment floating around in the bottom, it has not been filtered and contains more of the good stuff. That is a technical term by the way! :) It's just not as pretty as the filtered.

I have been using it since 03 and all my hens are AOK.....so no problem if you use it right and not all the time...any mild drug or supplement can be harmfull if used to much and to often....

I add 1 TBS of lemon juice to the ACV and honey. Also try to get local honey that has not been filtered, helps to condition the body to local pollens etc to avoid allergies. The guy that told me about this called it "The Moqus!" works well for head aches also. ---------- "Semper Fi" SD (Roy Cook) Georgia 59
