How many inches is the wire? Why isn't your roof slanted?

Drew, looking good, alittle advice along the way, make sure you have a way of blocking the floor with maybe a drawer, When the cold comes this winter and the bottom is open you'll end up losing a lot of birds to the draft. Change out the floor wire to 1"x 1", the 1/4 inch mesh will end up building up with poo.
Other then that you on a great start, You should of came by my place earlier, Your ass would of been motivated long time ago LOL ---------- Tony... "Color is not an option"

lol maybe my ass would have.. But yeah I haven't had a problem with this mesh flooring.. poo always goes through, maybe not human or dog though.. haha but yeah I am gonna have a corrigated slide out plastic tray underneath so I'll just take it out and rinse it off.. :) thanks for the input homeskii.. Even the weasels out here can get through 1 inch easily though, the small white ones..

I use 1/4 inch fabric for my floors and it does not build up with poop. I did it to protect the birds. I had 1 inch fabric and a raccoon had dinner on pigeon drumsticks. ---------- Just My Take On Things

Good job I would suggest double doors each 1/2 of your opening with a trap in one of them I use the same 1/2X1/2 inch mesh on the bottom also its easy to just hose out when the birds are flying,be shure to show it again when full Dennis

Are you guys that use the 1/4" wire, washing out the bottom of your kit boxes? I would like to use the 1/4" wire instead of the more expensive and harder to find 1". I've had other folks tell me they don't have issues with it but I tried it before and it filled up with crap real quick. I can't flush out my kit boxes because they are in my main loft.

I have one kit box with 1/2X1/2 wire and one with 1/2X1 inch wire on bottom yes I do have to hose one out more than the other would of liked 1x1 but I wasen't able to find it my 3rd box has a wooden floor and I keep sand on it works great easy cleaning and the birds eat the sand. Dennis

i built my new kitbox with 1x2 wire mounted on a removable frame (slides out), with a solid bottom to deter rodents and keep unwanted intruders out. plus, as stated above, it will be warmer and less drafty in cold weather. so its basically a sliding wire frame like a drawer, with a solid bottom which is also removable so i can scrape off the poop and slide it back in. i've also got a hinged door in front of both these drawer/slides. ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY

Looks good Andrew... Man I wish someone would put me up in a house right next to a pool. them birds got it made... LOL Steve, my newest kitbox is inside a loft so hosing it out is not an option. I also went with a removable wire bottom, so I can take it out from time to time and hose it off outside.. works for me. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Bet you can't wait to fill it with birds! You will need to paint the pressed plywood as it will not hold up in the weather over time- you may be already aware of that. Good start! Don M. LVRC QSDC NBRC
