The IRA went away when the leadership went away.

Yep, the year 2000. Too many clubs just follow a handful of people who do everything for the club and the rest do very little. When that small handful of leaders die or get sick and have to drop out of the hobby nobody picks up the slack and even good clubs sometimes dies because of this. Too many people just can't pull thier thumbs out of their ass fast enough to save something good it seems

Nick
That also goes for regions, we loose a few key people and nobody steps up. The next thing you know a region cannot even get one qualifier.
Today we are seeing examples where a good strong region that split, for numerous reasons, in a few years the weaker region suffers. Seldom do we see two strong regions from a split, more often we see one stronger of the two, something like a sudden death or the BOPs cause men to leave the hobby.
We need to think about forming regions that have TWICE the minimum number of flyers so if a few drop out the rest can carry on.
The way this economy is going, it is tuff on flyers, men loosing jobs , high cost of feed and of course the ever present sky sharks growing in numbers each year.

It all goes back to the 80-20 rule, in any organization no matter the size 20% of the members will do 80% of the work.

IRA???

That band inscription sounds very familiar. I'm almost sure that several birds Richard Jaconette shipped to me in the 80's had bands engraved with IRA on them.

I seem to have forgotten.... but what exactly was IRA abbreviated for?

If I remember correctly, it was International Roller Association. It folded because someone absconded with the money as I recall.
