i am trying to keep better records of my breading and development, today a have a bird that bumped twice from 50ft once yesterday and again today, the odd thing is that the bird that bumped was born on 4-29-9,today is the 7-19-09.is this normal.i was looking forward in their development but now this might be a set back,im not trying to breed any bumpers, especialy since they arent even fully develloped(in maturity and the roll)is this normal, ill check my records again

Luis, If the bird is heavy into the moult I would not judge it too harshly. If not then the problem will most likly solve it's self. If this was my bird, I would rest it for a week and try again. Best of luck. Thom

Thom, That is sound advise however a 3 month old bird that bumps from 50' is most likely a solid rolldown. Good luck roller alley but I suspect you have a future cull. Get used to it, to raise good rollers you will have some that are bred to hot. It is the nature of the hobby. ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

roller alley... personally I don't pay any attention to birds that bump. They usually straighten themsevles out. It's the lawn darts that get my attention....LOL

Paul, You don't consider a 3 month old bird that rolls down twice from 50' a lawn dart?? ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

Joe.. if a bird rolls down from 50'and survives, MORE power to him...lol. To me the difference between a bumper and a rolldown is: the bumper in many cases will survive and sometimes grow out of it. The rolldowns or "lawn darts" don't,they eliminate themselves. I hope this explains my position alittle more clearly.. ---------- Fly High and Roll On

Joe, it could be the bird is very hungry at this age. Feeding young birds too little or just wheat and milo is not good.

thanks again guys,my young birds get all they want in feed till they can hang with the big boys,i have 1 rule with my birds,3 strikes and your out, today i flew them once again and guess what guys, just what i thought the bird is a 50FTer,it just needed to get more hight,it had no problem being that deep, they all flew from 6:30am till 7:45.they went a litle to high for me causing 1 squeek to go to high and disapear, ill go back there in a minute and check to see if it trapped after i went to work.
ill enjoy him for another month till he comes again and realy pulls the roll and becomes the roll down.since he is this young i think it is inevitable that his outcome will be just that.hopefuly he will let me cull nim instead of him culling himself

Rolleralley I just had one do the same thing but he snap right out of it before hitting the grass but he stop and sat there like what the heck just happen and he is only two month old and when they start that young it usually turns into a roll down since he really didn't hit anyhing I put him away for a week and keep feeding him up and letting him mature and let time do its thing..I check his heart and mind this week.see what gives .. ---------- Ralph.
