The other day I noticed a bird just sitting out in the avery,so I went in the loft and the bird started to move but,it was wabbling from side to side as it walked away.. Like it was off balance. She felt alittle thin around the keel. What could this be??

That sound exactly like Joe said. Paratyphoid is what I would say. Joe ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/

Thanks guys... I have never had this happen before so I wasn't sure what it was. Iam just curious why only 1 bird out of 10 came down with it.

Paul, If it is a hen that has recently laid an egg (past day or so) it could be parathyroid which is a vitamin D deficiency. Try giving it some vitamin D oil if that is the case and it should respond in a day or so. ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

The reason you are seeing it in just the one bird is because Paratyphoid is present in virtually every loft. It just takes something such as stress to allow it to show its ugly face. Hens even after treatment can become carriers and will have dificulty raising healthy young. Joe ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/
