1. Dont rush to get Birds ,be patient look at several Kits in your area, climate is important.
2. Pick your Breeders from the AIR, there is no guarantee that AIR TESTED Birds will produce better pigeons BUT the % is on your side when you Breed Birds that are AIR TESTED.
3. If your looking to get Birds just to have and to enjoy regardless of thier Aerial performance then check out the Local fleamarket or Swapmeet , you might get some Roller Pigeons for 2 or 3 Dollers a piece.
4. If you are intrested in flying some good kits then start with Birds that come from a breeder that fly's in every fly he can enter.
Good Luck and keep them spinning

Good advice George! It's a shame that most of us just jump into the sport and acquire birds blindly with no real knowledge of what we are after. If one adheres to these 4 simple rules allot of time and heartache can be avoided. Ronnie. ---------- Promoting The Birmingham Roller The Greatest Aerial Acrobat! Come Fly With Us!

Great points George!
I would say that patience to me is most important, as many of us know, when you getting into birds its hard to "resist" the urge to run out and buy birds. With BOP situation its tuff because if you are starting out when everyone is on lockdown, it is IMPOSSIBLE to see a kit fly because guys dont want to risk losing birds...or that at least what they'll tell you. I know for me once i got back into birds it was around this time and it was hard not to buy birds that I had not seen fly, because i was ready to buy birds ASAP!Resist the temptation, you'll be better off in the long run.
Another thing I would suggest is to get to know the seller, most people are a good judge of character and if you feel that he is someone you can trust 8 times out of 10, you can! Try to have more than just one conversation with him before you buy the birds so you can see if he's B.S'n or he's the real deal, it should be apparent pretty quick.
Whatever you do, dont buy birds from all over. The fewer families you start out with is the less "Trash" you will have to get rid of!
Last but not least HAVE FUN! Remember its a hobby first and a sport second (if you choose to compete). It should releive stress not create it! .......KEVIN
