First if you agree to pay then it is fair. No matter what the cost. You can always say "NO" and let the chips fall so to speak Second some of my best birds were given to me. I went out of my way to make sure others knew I was serious and that I needed good birds. With that Knowledge others have helped me out. Thanks Bob Adams, Cliff Ball, Jon Farr, Brian Middaugh and Mont Bone. I have also been willng to take unflown, unproven birds and prove them myself. I have learned a lot by doing this. You will pay for the birds one way or another in time or money, which way go is up to you.

I got my self a new shed and turnd it into a pigeon loft. perches boxes ect... I then whent on a mishion trying to get some birds and got a couple of pairs. They cost me £25 pounds british money. What a load of rubish they were. I rememberd seaing a kit a few times near were i lived so whent round and got talking to the guy. I askd about bying 2 pairs and he said no problem pick 4 that are flying and try to remember them when they land. They were two that i memorised every feather on there body.LOL. when they landed i said them two and he laugthd at me. He said you no what your after bcause you have just pickd two of my best breeders. He has a no prisoner policey and flys all his birds. (BUT I THINK HE HAS STOCKD MOST NOW DUE TO THE PREY) He said look I work verry long hours and dont get chance to fly all my birds like i would like to but I have a kit of 07 yearlings (THIS WAS IN 08) that have only been out a hand full of times and you can take the 20 birds for £100 british pounds.( £5 each) He said I carnt guarentee you that they will all turn out great rollers but i can guarentee that you will get your moneys worth. And god was he right I have never lookd back since that day. I dont bring any other birds into my loft unless they come from him.I only intend on keepimg his familey.I have some great birds and I would say my best birds are what he has given to me over the last 2 years. We have become verry good friends and i look up to him as my teacher. He doesnt fly comp due to work but he sure has the goods there to be a verry good flyer. Infact he even lends pigeons from me to breed from now.(THAT MAKES ME FEEL GREAT) Last month i got one of his birds in my loft and took the bird round to his house and he said pick two young out of that kit bcause he said he would breed me a couple so i did. I said what do you want for them and he said nothing. I said atleast let me give you somthing for them so he said ok give me a £1 pound each for them. These birds were out of his best pair. As I was leaving he said thank you for bringing the bird back and he said (ITS NOT WHAT YOU COME WITH BUT WHAT YOU LEAVE WITH) This guy has helpt me so much and I hope there is plenty of other guys out there that are just like him that will one day help somone like he did me. He doesnt come on the site but has had a little browse here and ther. But STEVE if you happern to read this i would just like to say thank you MATE you are a diamond. Its good to get good birds but its even better when you get the fancier aswell.

ps I spoke to somone the other day and he was saying he bought some birds that were from good stock but they just wouldnt do anything for him. He phoned the guy and told him this and the guy said (YOU CAN BY THE BIRDS BUT YOU CARNT BUY THE FANCIER) and that is true. So if you get some birds from someone and you also can get knowledge from that person about the birds take it with arms open bcause it doesnt happern to everyone..

FAIR....The owner has the right to sell their birds for whatever they get for them ... If they dont like the price ,dont buy ..its that simple.

I believe that if you want to obtain good stock then you have to pay good money. That is just thway it is in life. That first day I got my birds I would have paid what ever he askd for bcause i wanted the birds. But to me people selling birds for stupid money are just in it for the money. I dont believe in the days of the old legends they would sell birds for the prices they go for today. Of course money has changed over the years in value but you no what i mean. Penson would have proberly given you a bird for the price of a sack of seed. Or they would build eachother box perches in exchange for birds. Crazy how things change with time. So I guess we have all been ripped off at some point or another. But we shall never make the same mistake twice. ----------

To acquire a start in the right direction, it becomes essential that we obtain stock from the best sources. Cost is secondary and ought not to be considered. The man who considers cost is generally looking for something for nothing, or he is totally unaware that he can only expect to get quality in accordance with what he pays. I have known fanciers who acquired birds for nothing, the nucleus of an outstanding strain; and I have known others who have paid small fortunes for stock. The first have been fortunate in their association with the right breeder, and the others have been fortunate in being able to buy the best at any price. pg 88..The Birmingham Roller Pigeon.. It doesn’t say that you acquire the goods and you can maintain it and it doesn’t say that you can acquire the less favorable and enhance it to become outstanding.
Even if you acquire culls from outstanding stuck, you can squeeze a few pairs of good birds from them to start a good breeding program. You can obtain outstanding birds from the air and the progeny could prove you the opposite. That is my take.

Very true Jay, With patience and good choices those birds that some people complain about can produce better than they are. One mans cull may be anothers producer. Too many people expect to have instant success. But it sure is nice to have some roll up there.!! Paul G

It sounds like the guy wants to unload junk birds for $25.00 and is concern as to why the guy wants to see those birds fly before he can buy. Chances are, for the most part he flies junk, and very few good birds. So for that reason, he is jacking up the price upto $50.00 in hopes that the buyer would be: DISCOURAGE BUYING FROM THE AIR.

jnyce, I think its fair.
50 dollar for a prove bird in the air is a good deal. 25 dollar is base on luck. Thats why its cheap. I like the guys that have a set price for the birds. Like 25 dollar to see and not to see them fly. I will be your best friend. Be over your house every day. Letting you do the hard work while I pick your best birds for 25. I think it will change your mind really fast. I like nice guys that charge cheap price like 25 for a proven roller.
