----------A question,my breeder cocks are losing feathers only on the crop area,is this from feeding the young? otherwise they are in perfect health, the hens do not have this problem, just curious,1st year I noticed this.

What do you use for feeders, Pat? I have used chick metal feeders and they will loose feathers in the exact same place. Take a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 inch plywood 12x18 inches or so, put a one inch lip made of 1x4 and virtually have a tray to feed from...you can scrap easily and they can feed directly on it...works for my kit boxes very well. Bruce is correct. It is cause by the feeder. I have had the same problem and gone crazy wondering what it was.

hi pat
ive had a few cocks go the same while breeding + i dont use feeding trays but its weired how its only the cocks that go like that.we are having a discussion on a uk roller site that we all use + a few people are having simmular probs.but we think that is dipluming mite which can be a bstd to sort out
but to check its not that .look at the feathers + the crop feathers will look as though theyve been cut across the feather leaving them quite sharp when you touch them.but i have a feeling it has something to do with the way the cock sits in the nest bowl + rubs his chest on the edge of the bowl.

wanless I did have mites attack on top of one of my cocks head and it became bald. I used PERMECTRIN and it helped. But for the crops it has happen to my hens and cocks.

J & Ying, it is just the cocks, not the hens and it is happening in the breeder loft and all 6 kit pens!
I dust every month the lofts and my birds!Mites would not live in my lofts with as much SEVERN dust as I use! LOL

hi pat
are the crop feathers just missing which leaves a big baldy patch .or are the feathers snapped or look like theyve been cut.
