What do flaxseed and hemp do for a bird ?? I know flaxseed in high in protein. But what else does it have that is helpfull for a flying roller ?? Thank You ~ Lee- T-town-rollers

Flax and linseed act as weather repellent for the birds feathers.Glen.

I think flax provides fat and because fat provides more energy birds probably can stay above longer. I don't know about hemp. I suppose it makes them feel good. LOL!

They are oilseeds that help with the molt. They help the new feathers develop. They are also high in fat content as is safflower. Don't over do it just mix a little in your regular feed.

Hemp is supposed to increase the birds interest in breeding. It is supposed to do the same for parrots. It is also used in songbird mix. In Levi's book it says that hemp is beneficial to a pigeons happiness... Paul G

Looks like I'm going to have some Fat,horney,smooth feathered,oily,musselbound rollers. LOL. No I just put a real small amount of each in my mix. So I hope they molt out well. Thanks for the responce. Lee- T-town-rollers
