Anyone ( Ty, Cliff, ) know how the Turner Birds handle the hot weather ?

Are they able to fly long enough to be trained when the weather is Hot ?

George, I have 3 young bird kit's in training at this time. The weather has been between 90 and a 100 deg for the last few months and they are flying between 20 and 50 min each fly. Humidity is the biggest factor on them not the heat. My A kit is flying around a hour and working the entire fly, I had 2 full turns yesterday with no hesitation at all. I fly my young birds twice a day, my wife fly's them early morning and then we both fly them around 6 to 9 pm. The feed plays a big roll in there performance in the hot months (it took me a while to figure that one out)I did have some trouble last year with keeping them up but I have a handle on the feed can this year.

My birds fly all year long. That said, the molt will play a factor. I would check and see if feathers are in the kit box or waterers. If they are, some times birds will act differently.....not fly, and maybe not spin as much. But my birds never go "stiff". If the birds are not in the molt, check will your mentor to see if you need to adjust your handling techniques.

My A-teams, both cocks and hens, are flying between an hour and an hour and a half at 3-500 ft. Four of the young bird kits are flying at about 1-200 ft for 20-30 minutes. The other three, I crate up and release them on a hill about a quarter mile up a long drive-way of mine. This insures that they will go up to 300 feet for 30 minutes when they are coming into spin good. It's a trick I have learned, with my family of birds, to keep them from flying on one wing in low tight circles, which impedes the development of the roll in young birds.

George, I forgot to mention that I use three seasoned hens [stiffs or short birds] to train my youngbird kits. This takes alott of the stress of of me.
