hi all we have just invested in a few of those talking clocks that hanness the w/c judge used.but we have just started our biggest fly in the uk the aerc fly that takes around 15 days to judge.with the judge been alone + the weather so unpredictable here .we also invested in 1 of those dickter phones.like a tape recorder you can just talk your scores into it without needing a marker or your score sheets getting wet.also after each flyer you can leave a little message so when doing your report its already on tape you just have to copy it for your journals.have any of you used them to judge as i think it could be the thing of the future.

I've seen Electric Mans dickter when we were judging Oklahoma and the sheep were running scared.
On a side note, the recording devices do work very well you can include the 5 minute splits etc. and reproduce the tape for others if they need it. The clock on the other I heard was not very reliable and should not be used.

How to you know what the score tally will be after each flyer has flown? Does the judge leave the flyer's house without telling the score?

Aloha John, I had one of the talking timers that is advertised in the NBRC bulletin. It "crapped out" during a fly, luckly had a regular stop watch going at the same time. Hope the ones you got weren't the same ones. The buttons on them stick and to replace the "button" batteries requires opening up the whole timer. I got a new timer from the site below. It's the three channel timer and runs on "AA" batteries not the "button" batteries and is built a lot sturdier. http://www.bindependent.com/hompg/timers.htm As for the recorder, its a good idea, but just remember electronic stuff will stop working at the worst time. Have two running at the same time so you don't "lose" the scores if one craps out.
Aloha Dex

hi all hi dex no probs with our clocks but we did buy them here in the uk + you know what they say about buying british is best lol.as i said the judge now judging the aerc is alone .normally he takes a marker with him so the dickter phone works really well.as some places will only be the judge + the flyer so without having to take his eyes off the birds he can judge them on his own.then he can write the score down after the fly if needs be.mind you im waiting for him to phone me todays scores as he does each night + he has not phoned yet hope those gadgets have not broke lol.
