i've got this thin 09 bird in my 2nd kitbox, and since its arrival its always looked like its on death's door. pretty thin, and can only fly a short distance, and doesn't bother flying with its kitmates. it does however continue to thrive, although it only eats the two grains i mentioned. i've got it so tame, it will come over to me and eat out of my hand, and i can still offer it the entire feed mix, but it picks up only the rape and red milo. i just don't understand what's going on with this bird. i don't have a breeding loft setup yet, so every bird is valuable to me, and i don't want to cull it just yet. i figure it could at least be a foster/surrogate next year. also, please laugh, its funny, its so think, its able to squeeze between the dowels of my feed troughs to sit 'inside' the trough. weird bird, and weirder habit. i figure i'll give it as long as it needs to turn the corner, if it can. ideas? this one has me stumped

Yep, it will break the habit of only small seeds, I get birds like that here and there, they are a pain to hold condition on. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Steve Feed each type of seed individually. I guarantee you have more than one bird picking thru, eating thier favorite seeds. yits ---------- V99 blue sky single beat in cadance performing now earth beckons the winged drawn breath is let quickly forth orchestral movement follows

i watch both kits eat up close, and i can tell who's eating what. yes, i know young birds like the small stuff, but this one particular fussy bird ain't gonna make it unless it eats better. today i caged it with only peas and some wheat. it ate a bit, but wanted out. too bad, it'll have to tough it out till later. i'll only put it back in the kit box before dusk.

That bird has those bad habits or was only feed those grains before. Either you shove different seeds to its mouth or force to eat other seeds by making them only seeds available.
Long time ago my birds wont eat pellets so I gradually started adding it to my feed at 5%. Then 10%, then 20% until I feed them half pellets, half grains. The birds will get used to it. They will adapt. It took them 3 months though. Now they go crazy with it.
Oh yeah, make sure the bird is not sick as well that it can't swallow big grains. That would be like birds with canker.
