i'm flying 2 youngbird kits, and they've started their moult, and I wanted to know should i expect any changes in their effort or performing? or put another way, should i start to fly them differently, as in not so much? i currently fly twice a day on weekends, but only afternoons weekdays.

Absolutly it affects them, feed them richer and don't worry about the performance, it is about just getting them through it as quickly and cleanly as possible. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

I let them soak in a bath with epsom salt to smooth their ache from the primary and secondary coming in..sometimes when you fly them when those 7,8,9 primary are bloody in the blood quil,. I would rest them birds more because they can easily roll down on you by accident because of the moult.like Scott said help them get through the moult plenty of oil seeds safflower..rest good mix..---------- ---------- Ralph.

I do Steve, at least the youngest kits as I want to get as much air time on them as possible before the short days hit. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Ralph, i checked a few birds, and they're working on their 3rd and 4th primary (counting from the secondaries). i'm feeding a mix with safflower, and i'm also mixing in their youngbird mix which is what they're parents were feeding them. that contains flax and rape, which they always seem to go after. i know they need their flytime, but should i cut back to once a day on weekends? the last two days, two birds didn't take off with their kits, and i let them stay instead of chasing them. they never did that before, and i figufred they might have been feeling a bit hurt in their wings so i let them rest. i want to compete in the 11 bird fall fly, but i don't want to ruin any bird by pushing it too much. not sure if that really applies, but until i hear otherwise, i'd rather be a bit cautious. ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY

thanx Ralph. you guys are my mentors, and my birds will be the better for it. i don't want to just look at them as competition flyers, afterall, how can i expect them to give all they have if I'm not doing my job? you can ask my wife how much i watch the birds. she thinks i'm weird, but i don't care. can always get a new wife! LMAO, just kidding, she's a keeper, but not a lover of pigeons. oh well. ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY

Hey Steve, I got a kick out of your wife thinking your weird. My wifes the same way, just can't figure out why I get so much enjoyment from my birds. Last Friday my A team wouldn't come down and it was getting dark, I had both my truck lights shining on the roof, as well as the four wheelers spot light. My wife just handed me a beer and went back inside the house, she knew I would not rest easy until I did everything I could to get them down.

The wives are loving it knowing that their husbands are in the backyard staying out of trouble and not frequenting bars and running around. Even your spending habbits shrinks. So what to not love about it! The wives know that it is more money available for them to spend (lol).

Jay, i'm not going to tell my wife that there's any money left for anything. i'm going to tell her i spent it all on feed and i'm thinking of buying more pigeons. or maybe i should just not say anything. yet... ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY
