when treating my birds with a canker or coccidiosis treatment, i've heard that the chlorine in the drinking water will change the effectiveness of the treatment. if that is true, what about when giving probiotics or vitamin/electrolytes? i do have a reverse osmosis water filter for drinking, and could put it into use for the birds if its necessary.

Hey Steve, Yes the chlorine will prevent your meds. from working at their peak. I just let tap water sit over night in a five gallon bucket covered with a splatter screen. The chlorine will dissipate in 24 hours.

Just go to your local fish store and get chlorine remover....its for tropical fish....just add one drop per gallon....and it works instantly....and it is not harmful...because it is for fish....I have been using it for years.

Paul, thanx! and to think of all those years with tropical fish and not once did i ever use that stuff, but did know about it. when i got salt water fish, i switched to the reverse osmosis filter which removes everything, and also removes chlorin., just a little inconvenient since its in the house and only makes a couple of gallons of water/day. ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY

hey Paul, you're right about the flushing logic. and its not just the cost of the fish, ya know. the salt, the live rock, about 5 lbs per gallon of tank @ $5.00/lb, the special lighting, the coral, the maintenance, the water changes, the protein skimmers, the other shit.....hey, why not get pigeons instead! when we moved to our present home, the tank was sold before we moved, and my mind was only on rollers. i hope i can make up for all the years i didn't have them. i'm cherishing every day, and hope to spend a lot more enjoying them and the new friends i've been making along the way. and a special thanx to all the helpful folks on this site. ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY
