I met up with a good old friend who has some birds out of Bob Evans family.

QUESTION: What line of Pensoms does Evans original stock go back to?

Is it #514, #350 or another Pensom?

LaRon... do you know?

Marcus,
The Bob Evans family of birds go back to birds that Mr Pensom exported to this country back before WWII. Most of the birds went back to old time English breeders like Bellfield and others. Mr Evans was pretty generous with his birds and spread them around the country from what I understand. Hope this helps.

Ditto - He did have some that Smith bred and also Perkins. They were off of the old imported pigeons as Joe stated.

Thanks LaRon and Joe.

These Evans birds.... can you cross them with Plonas, 514's, Jaconettes, Higgins or Norm Reed's stuff? I assume going body type -to- type would be the best angle here.

....also

Can someone tell me a little bit about Mr. Bellfield's family of birds. I've heard that name before.

JDA Bill Pensom was not thrown out of the prc club. He Quit and ask that his name be take out of the club because they were going in a different direction then he was. Back then the PRC club went more to show then fly. Jim Bowen

Ralph... what a coincidence. Because my friend has a family of yellows that he says are pure Bob Evans stuff.

Hmm.... interesting.

Anyone around here has some photos of the Bob Evans birds?

Marcus go to page 71 in The Birmingham Roller Pigeon book by Wm.H.Pensom and others and you will see a nice strong tight feather muscle yellow Hen...NPA 44,1209 one of the three yellow self hens bred and owned by Bob Evans who will guarantee them to fly ,kit and spin with the average best, The blood of HRC 33-23 Silver Badge Cock, HRC 33-188 Black Badge Hen ,and NBRC 35.-2146 Red Badge cock is behind these birds..as it is written.

Ralph... is that yellow of Bob Evans which is pictured in "The Birmingham Roller Pigeon" book by Wm.H.Pensom... a Badge or Baldie looking bird with white flights & white tail feathers?

I don't see any yellow selfs on page 71.

Hey Marcus ,looking at it again its a yellow ,flights and tail might be a little lighter shade .but it says its one of the 3 yellow bred by Mr Evans so I assume it is a yellow .hard to tell in book cause the picture is not in color..

Exactly what page is the Evans yellow on in your book?
