My job sometimes requires me to take trips overseas for periods of time. Fortunately when this happens my wife and sons are willing to take care of my birds. My sons are both in college so they don't have virgin ears. My wife has pretty much heard it all, usually straight out of my mouth. My problem is what kind of response are they going to get from the members of this site if they ever have to post a question? What about your wife and kids? Tracey

Who is useing profanity here Paul ? I don't think this has any thing to do with this topic, I also know mr X and he is far more educated than you and I and he also rarely uses profanity.
(THIS IS WHAT JAY CENSERED IT TO)

I think we are talking about two different things here. In my experience, all around the country, when guys are on a fly and have a car full, the F bombs and profanity fly, along with the jokes and good humor. Man-to-man and face-to-face things are different. It's all in good fun. At that point in time, it is definitely a man's sport, like at bar or a bunch of guys playing golf or watching the Super Bowl. But when the flyers get to the flyer's house and there are kids and wives around, the men clean it up, out of respect; except for the occaisional explicative which kids and women are accustomed to hearing out in the public.
But here on the internet, and especially on a privately-owned (but public) site, the standard has to be set. A line has to be drawn. Tony has set the standard and personally, I applaud what he has done. It gives the site more credibility and more respect than if everyone were cursing each other and dropping F bombs every other word. We have seen that happen in the roller hobby internet sites, already, and those men have been banned from almost every internet site in which they participate. The problem is that on the internet, the cursing has the tendency to easily deteriorate and escolate into anger, name-calling, dis-respecting, and threats of bodily harm, as it creates ill-will among our fellow man. We have seen it on less-moderated sites. Men with a sense of decency and those wanting to avoid such confrontations will drop out and not participate. There is already a roller internet site where such behavior is the order of the day. I have not seen a conversation about rollers in a year or so on that site. It has degenerated into dirty jokes and pictures of naked women. I don't want to sound like a prude. There is a time and place for these things, and I get a kick out of them just like the next guy.....but I don't think that an internet roller site is where we want to create this kind of environment...for the hobby....for ourselves....for our wives...for our kids. JMHO. Cliff

Can someone explain to me why the word "educated" was moderated from Scott's post? Tony, this is the lack of common sense that I was talking about. Won't be long and noone will be left on this site. ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

I can assure you Joe there was a good reason. When I masked it, I let Scott know and that I will be contacting him privetly. It has nothing to do with anything negative.

As far as Iam concerned, the dialog that Scott and I had was nothing but, just that, dialog..... 2 "men" discussing a topic. Unfortunately I(Paul)got my thoughts mixed up and posted my thouhgt in the "wrong" thread. I saw absolutely "wrong" with what Scott said as a reply to me. Iam not mad, angry or upset with anything that was said. I see no reason the beat a dead horse anymore.... ---------- Fly High and Roll On

Joe, I do not know the details as to why Scott had posts moderated. I have not spoken with the Moderator who did it. Jay says he will contact Scott over the matter. Let's just leave it at that.
Joe, consider picking up the phone and call me to voice your concerns about these things, otherwise, when they get posted like this, all that is going to happen is someone is going to feel emboldened by your post and say something that is then going to turn into another war with hurt feelings and disgruntled members who feel they have to leave the site.
Let Scott and Jay hash it out offline. I know from experience that it is wise to not have knee-jerk reactions to attempts at keeping the site in compliance with the posting policy. Things will work out. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria
