this has crossed my mind so often, i thought i'd ask here. if a young bird only flips once or twice, will it add rolls as it gets older? or should i say, did your 20' spinners start out that way, or begin with only a flip or two?

Most of mine start that way Steve, or some just start flying a little strange, it is like something is starting to happen in the early deveopment. ---------- Scott Campbell

Steve, I prefer that mine start slow. No deeper then a few feet or they developed to dangerous. It's like riding a bike without training wheels the first time out, just an accident looking for a place to happen. :) Anything worth having takes time. Thom

ok if one should be a little to hot when they are young n if u lock him/her up for some period of time will that stop them from rolling down in the future so u can say can a rolldown b stop if the stage is still early since most people say the hotter one usually will be a rolldown

thanx for the responses everyone. Thom, i'm sure you know i'm aware of dangerous roll downs, having experienced a couple so far. and truthfully, as many have pointed out, roll downs are part of the business of producing quality rollers. since i'm working with much better quality birds than when i originally started with rollers some years ago, i'm just not familiar with what will or will not develop into a solid spinner. i've got one bird that has me concerned. its developed much more than i had ever expected from any of my youngsters. it will rip off 20' spins, and be in control. one time it started too low, and did hit the top of a tall tree, but still climbed back into the air and rejoined the kit. whether it gets too deep to pull up i'll just have to wait to see. i'm seeing others spin 4-6', and i suppose i should be pleased that i'm seeing some type of performance. as the weather cools off a bit, longer flying times and more frequent rolling is what i'm seeing, and i'm happy for that. ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY
