Wanted to get some opinions about what everyone thinks about the behavior of rollers compared to other breeds. Do you think they are more aggressive then others. I think rollers are also a little more high strung, at least with being caught then others? What is everyones opinion?

I think this falls under the different family's of rollers category. Some people will not breed out of a wild acting bird regardless of it's performance there for the trait is cut from the family. My rollers will land on me and beg for food, my mookees will beat you with there wings and peck you, they will leave the nest to get you. My old german owls are a little spooky but not real bad and some of the starlings I used to have would fly into the wire trying to get away from me when I was feeding.

Well, then I would like some of your birds. Because mine are FrEAKS! When they were squeekers I had fed them and they would attack me for feed. But now I dont socialize much, and they are "feral" acting if you will.

UFCVM....What Ty said holds true. And the more time you spend with your birds,especially feeding them, the more they get aquainmted and fimilar with you.. For example my Orientals are much aggressive and alittle bit more on the wild side then my other rollers are. Again it all depends on how much time you spend with them..

I have found that rollers are very mellow compared to other breeds....like Homers....I feel that is because like Ty said...we dont like cocky aggressive birds...we cull those wing slapping....cocks!!!.....So as we do that...the stock loft starts to get filled with Mellow cocks and hens....I NEVER have fighting in my loft for nest boxes...Hell I have cocks that will purch on the landing board of another box and just chill....but dont get me wrong..pigeons are pigeons and when I am in the stock loft...they really do not want to be handled..LOL...but I feel rollers are mellow due to our selective breeding.

Yea, I don't like those wing clappers either and I am going to give a wet willie to the next guy who says that wing clapping is a sign of good health. It is a sign they are interested in doing something else than kitting and spinning.

Kevin;
You don't want your rollers to be too tame. They need to be alert at all times. However, they will often land on or near you while you are feeding them. Al
