I have seen some breeding pens (individuals) and thought how is that possible because it was too small. The flyer told me the birds were fine and bred all the time in that confined space so I guess it is up to the particular bird as to what's too small or just right. ---------- DJJeffman Spinners

yea, i saw some that looked like 9 in high and all his breeding boxes were like that and i was like wtf??? but i think they need to be bigger tho, at least double their height n stuff.
well, im thinking about building a triple kitbox that measures 4ft high x 3ft deep x 2 1/2 ft long. is that good enough?? the reason i am not making it 3 ft long is because my space is about 7ft x 8 ft and a triples kit box of 3ft long wont fit for me. thnxs for all replys!!

Tou, With a kitbox you have 20 birds sitting in quite close proximity and if it is too enclosed and tight it can be unhealthy. I have small kitboxes, 3ft cubed, but my birds have an aviary on the front so they can be given room to feed and sunbathe when I want them to. Breeding boxes also can be quite small if the pair can get out and move around. If they are confined to their box due to individual breeding, then I would say as big as you have room for. As long as the birds can get in and nest buld, and feed the youngsters then you can have quite tiny boxes and the birds will feel secure. Some of the dove cotes had small individual compartments but the doves usually had open access to fly about. One square foot would be as small as I would be comfortable with but I've seen feral pigeons nesting on a girder around 6" wide. Pete
