I was Wondering, does a bird lose value? if you got birds from a top roller guy who won competitions and stuff, he obviously doing something right, but if you got birds from him and breed differently does the bird lose value compared to the top roller guy choosing the breeding pair.
what i mean by value is the quality

rollinfever, here is how I would answer your question. When I got my birds from Sal Estrada back in 1993, he was very successful in the LPRC with many wins and later, even won the Southern California World Cup region when the it was 1 region, not the elevendy billion it is today.
I remember when I had my birds for a few years he said I was too hard on the birds and that I should give the birds more opportunity to develop before I culled them, I said I had very clear vision of what I wanted from my stock...a few years after that, Sal told me that I had improved the birds beyond what he had done with them and that I really didn't need his input on what to do with the birds any longer.
Now for those who do not know Sal, he does not blow smoke or humor you, he will tell you like it is. So did my birds lose quality? Well, I know I have supplied Sal with some Ruby's in the last few years and he has reported good results with them.
Have I improved on his birds? No, the gene-pool is what it is, I have merely re-worked, through breeder selection, traits and characteristics important to my objectives. Did the quality suffer? Not as far as I can tell. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

buy a bird and then see if the owner will take the bird back no questions asked,if he make a big hiffy then you will know you have been had, only he knows where the stock came from and will be hesitant in relinquishing something that wasnt top notch.good luck

rollinfever, when you get birds from another flyer, your going to either improve the birds, see no difference in the birds, or mess up the birds. I'm talking about the offspring, the orignal birds will remain the same in value the way I see it. As you can read in Tony's post, he had a vision of where he wanted to take the birds, and he got input from Sal to help him in this task. Now if Tony had got birds from Sal and never asked him questions or got his input, and stocked everything the birds raised, has he improved the birds. No.. What I'm saying is that just because you purchase good birds, don't expect all thier young to be great performers or producers. It's very easy to mess up good birds. Dale

I have to agree with Tony and Dale 1000%. It all boils down to "Management"...
