yesterday mr cooper came swooping in just as i was calling my birds in, all were on the kitbox. the hawk scattered all the birds, but one yellow took off low into my neighbor's yard with the bop on his tail. the rest of the kit took to the air, as expected, and finally came down an hour later, and i quickly got them in. the yellow was missing. was this my first casualty? i was sure of it. when i went out around dinner time to check the birds, there was the yellow, unhurt, but unable to get in with the trap closed. i was not only relieved, but just couldn't believe she eluded the cooper, which was literally on her ass. not a feather out of order. i flew them early today, no sign of bop's. i realize i'm running out of time to fly, as the bop's will be here in full force, and my birds won't be as lucky next time.

Escape artist or lucky? Sounds like a little of both maybe! Glad you got your bird back. I wouldnt fly for a few days and keep changing fly times if possible when you do.

Always warms my heart to hear a shark went hungry for the night!!! LOL

thanx Val. yep, it was nice to get that young one back. whether or not that shark went hungry we'll never know, but i bet you it fed on some other less fortunate bird.

Steve.... If you had 1 lb coffee can traps and not wire you could leave it open and cats or bop would not get into kit box. same idea as the elbows. Keep the lids and you put them on the kit you are not flying. JDA

It seems like the Coopers are getting more aggressive and attacking even when they aren't hungry. I've seen them play with a bird and let the bird escape or kill a bird and not eat it.

Well hell, I knew not to speak of the sharks or my luck would change! LOL

Luckily I didn't throw my a-team out first yesterday. Had a feeling with the change in the weather pattern this weekend, I knew the sharks would be showing up. Hadn't seen one in over a month, but had 2 yesterday. They scattered my B-kit and off they went in all directions. At last count, I was short 7 but noticed a couple rollers circling just before dark. I know there was one for sure got killed. The first coop caught one and the other coop attacked it so the first one dropped its kill and they went on and faught over the teritory I'm guessing to what was going on. While they were chasing each other around, they lost focus on my birds and several of my B-team made it in. The one they hit died though.

Lost 8 of my A-team to an over fly last week. A few weeks ago, I had more young than I had kit perches, now, I'm already setting with empty perches. Its just begun too!!!
