A friend who is flying Turner Birds asked me if I could help him out . He said this is his first Year flying Turner Birds and for some reason the Birds always go up then suddenly they "CORKSCREW' in to the ground .

He said he has tried putting them in a Box and letting them go down the street but it still wont help.

I asked him if it is only one kit that is doing this and he said " NO" all three kits do the same thing.

He said if he cant get them to fly right he said he is going to box up the whole Bunch and drop them of at the local feed store. he said he spent quite a bit of money on these Birds .

Any Help would be appreciated THANKS

Hey sounds to me like he has a feeding problem , maybe starving them down ? Keeping them in the dark for long periods or other "stressing" methods.

Have him feed them more, some families need more feed.I have some turner birds and they seem to need more feed. Also maybe letting 5 birds out at a time until they get some height.

George,
Have your BUDDY join the post so he can give us some first hand details. Sometimes it helps to read a post more than once.

i just talked to my friend and he said he has tried feeding them up feeding them lesss letting birds out one at a time and changing the feed and all kind of things but the results are always the same "CORKSCREW"

he does not have a computer so there is no way he can even look at these post he just thought that some else may have had this same problem and was able to do something to get the Birds to fly at a decent hight and a decent time . he said they wont Fly no more then 15 minutes or less.

I am confused are the birds rolling down or are they not wanting to fly? Is this his first year flying birds or is it just his first year flying Turners? You say he has three kits doing this, how many birds total are doing this? You tell me 3 kits and I think 60+ birds.

I have same problem to start with my Turner birds, they are now 5 mo old and are just now staying up over 20 min. they roll great very deep had a few roll downs but both hit hard but recovered and are flying great now. my problem is that i only have 1 kit box and have young and squeakers in same box flyer's see squeakers on box and want to come down, stop letting squeakers out at same time this has help starting to add time to flying. work on feed amounts mine do better with less feed.

These birds are like athletes, a few days of feeding them up will not do it. They need to be conditioned from day one or you will have these problems but you can solve them it will just take time. Once you have set problems into the birds they are hard to break but it can be done. Austrian winter peas will help and flying them 3 at a time will get them up. If the guy has just given up on them tell him to e-mail me. I would be inclined to say it is a handling problem like many others have said.

tell him to try mixing up the kits see if it helps. fly them in groups of 5 and see what happens. look for stable good flyers that don't come down and start to build a team around the good flyers.

Rudy thanks for the advice My friend has flown Birds for about 7 years .. He spent hundreds on Birds from Dick Stephens and was not happy that they did not Roll enough .

I told him that if he wants I can breed him a kit of Jaconettes and I will give him the Kit for free.

The Jaconettes are easy to fly and they like to roll so he should have lots of fun with them. all a person has to do is know the basics and they should be able to fly a nice Kit you do not have to be a Wizard to make them Roll LOL.

Thanks for all the advise fellas...

if it was me and the birds are homed in i would box the dam things up and take them a few blocks from the house and make them go up to find there way home. in the past when I've had birds go up circle and come down right away i box them up drive them down the road and release them. this out of there bad habit by making them fly to go home and if they don't make it back then they just culled themselves but I'm yet to loose one with this method good luck to your friend without a name lol

Sal, I'm with you on that one. George the Turners are a very easy family to handle, My wife Tiffany breeds and flys her own line of Turners[Old Yellow Mottle Cock line] and she doesnt spend the countless hours on the phone and the net that I do, lol Do you have the Cook Line of Jacs ? The ones from his family have been way better than any family of jacs I have seen to date.If I was not able to fly the Turners I would try the Cook birds.
