I recently picked up some very nice stock birds from a friend after watching their young fly.Anyway, this coming spring I want to train their young to portable kit boxes soI can fly birds while going to horse shows with my wife.Would it be a good idea to start working droppers now so they would be ready? If so, what breed do you think will work the best for this? Thanks in advance, Mark W

You could use any breed. Here are 2 suggestions: 1. Cut the wing feathers off any flying type breed pigeon (can be a roller you currently have). This way the pigeon will not be able to fly away. 2. Use a show type pigeons such as fantails, west of england, modena

Thank you !! I am going to a few shows and will look for something at them. I am kind of leaning towards indian fantails but will see what I can find.

markw....I would start off using "White Fantails" for one reason only. They "don't" fly. Start "early" on with putting the Fantails in with your birds when it's feeding time. Put the Fantails in before you feed your birds. Continue doing this at every feeding. Let the fantails eat with your birds, then remove them. This way your birds will associate eating when they see the Fantails. My experience over the years, the Fantails make the "best" droppers... Good luck.
