I see hundreds of commies in my area so why is it that my birds are being attacked and the commies continue to grow its a few birds that have been in my area for at least a year

Jerry, I'll speak to my area. Where I live the wild pigeons go from town to the soy bean fields or corn fields by the hundreds. Like the bombers in World War 11 the stay tight and move fast darting from one level to another all together. My rollers stay over the loft circling or doing a figure eight, and they are an easier target then the wild birds. The resident cooper's know where they are and just wait for me to fly them. :(

I also thought the same where I live there is shoping centers one mile east, and one, mile west of me but I have seen hawks hunting there more times than at my loft, esp. the cooper's will sit for hours just waiting for me to release my birds that is why it is so important to check the trees, wires,& the sky before you fly. From what I've seen most common pigeons can out fly our rollers as far as pure speed. Especially our young birds, they don't learn about hawks until it's too late sometimes. We have Ravens here in the high desert that chase the coopers away most of the time.

I noticed the same. I suppose those feral pigeons have evolved to survive hawk attacks so those hawks don't want to bother them anymore. It could be the case also that our birds are tastier. Who would resist a well-fed pigeons?

I think it's becasue our birds taste better than the commies and they are easier to catch. Why go through the hassle of cooking a burger when you can go to Burger King?

Jerry, the commies are considered “Street Wise” and our rollers are considered “Preppies”. Preppies go out to play once a day for a half hour. Street Wise birds know how to wheel and deal.

I had not had a B.O.P. attack for about a year. Two days ago last bird trapping was taken.
