i heard that it's bad to fly right after it rains due to the bop. is this true? and if so, how long should i wait to fly again?

I think it depends on how bad the BOP are in your area. Brian

I'd be real careful flying right after a rain. I've done this in the past and had an unexpected storm cell move in before they could land. Fortunately, I got all of them back. Tracey

Iam not sure about "your" statement. I like to fly my birds in a "light" rain. I don't fly my birds after a hard steady or down pour type rain. The atmospheric pressure is "more" of a problem before and after the rains...

I agree with windjammer loft, Bop,s seem not to like getting wet. I dont fly my birds until the following day after it stops raining. But if it stops raining at night, dont let out your birds in the morning. Those bop,s are extremely hungry. I would wait at least 24 hours after it stops raining.

Paul is right, here in the northeast where I live, this time of year rainy days are associated with low pressure systems and are followed by high pressure once the low has cleared. The BOP and other migrating birds use tail winds to their advantage. Air flows clockwise around a high-pressure systems in the northern hemisphere, so birds migrating south in the fall east of the high pressure center will be on the move and the birds that are west of the system will wait a few days, so watch the weather and fly on the west side, good luck.
This is reversed in the spring.

My experience seems to back up the claim that BOPS are bad after a rain. They got my birds because they were persistent. I suppose they were very hungry and so determined. I wait another 3 days before flying them again. By then, I hope they already have eaten.

Read my earlier post.
Ok, it rained all day yesterday here in Connecticut, now look at this map.

I would not fly today on the east coast, I would say it's a safer bet to fly in Texas and the Ohio River Valley

I would not fly aftera rain because as stated above, the BOP's are very hungry. ---------- DJJeffman Spinners
