i presently have two flying kits of 09 birds, numbering 33 in total. last month i bought a 50lb bag of white milo and 50lb of red hard wheat, not realizing its way more than i needed for training. with the weather starting to get colder, can i add more white milo as a substitute for corn? i have no problem buying some popcorn for the winter, but wonder if its nutritionally very similar to popcorn, as in carbs and fat.

Steve, Dari is lower in fat than corn, similar to wheat. You may need to feed a little more milo than you would with corn to get the same calories.

Steve and Tou Cracked cron is rumored to give rollers canker. Its premise is that fungus will grow in the corn kernel after it is cracked. I would imagine this would largely depend on the weather in which you live as to the likelihood of getting fungus growing in your corn. I know some guys who have fed chicken scratch for years and dont have problems.
One thing to remember with your grains and seeds, "if in doubt, throw it out."

i should have also said that i DO feed a mix with peas, safflower, wheat, milo, etc. i was feeding white milo/red wheat on alternate days prior to competition. now that the competition is over, i'm flying alternate days, and mixing extra wheat/milo every other day. i was trying to find out if adding white milo will give the same carbs and fat as popcorn, or come close. i don't use cracked corn, nor have i ever. however, popcorn is universally fed during the colder weather we experience in the northeast, and i am ok with using popcorn. what ratio is popcorn used when added to a mix w/o corn? ---------- Steve in Blue Point, NY
