I have seemed to have ran out of standard pigeon grit and was wondering if there was something I could substitute until getting another bag of grit.
This is first time ever running out and complexed to to find anything near the same size of crushed stone.

You don,t need that red grit,Feed oyster shell only. Call feed stores to find it. JDA

Pigeons need some crushed rocks to aid digestion in their gizzard. They obviously need calcium as well provided by that oyster shells. You need both. I've read somewhere that some people,in a pinch, crush some bricks. In the wild, I think any small rocks or stones are what pigeons get.

Today's grit actually contains more than just rocks. Some even have charcoals. Pigeons will try to swallow bigger rocks/stones than those sands although they will try to eat those as well for added minerals.

Here is a video that contains some info on grit if you are in a pinch:

Scroll to 5:39 to see about basic grit. Obviously it is better to buy the commercial ones because those are cleaned.

It works on mine. I just highlight the whole text link, then right click my mouse to choose copy, open a tab on my Firefox and paste the link on the address bar by right clicking again and choosing paste. The video is by Tossdart.

If that procedure doesn't work, then just go to YouTube and type in tossdart in the search bar and find the video that says "Basic knowlege 5 Products & Food." Scroll to 5:39 to see the grit info. Basically he says that calcium carbonate is the only thing you really need for basic grit. You can also get some rocks dig up from your soil or collected from places where you can find some small stones. I just buy mine because I want to make sure the grit is clean.
