Region 14 completed it's regional fly yesterday, as well as the last of our first ever club fly series. We would like to thank Glen Van Roekel from Caliente, NV. for judging our region, as well as Don "Lucky" Lyle TNT loft for coordinating our first ever club fly season(4 flys). We only flew the 20 bird fly. Congratulations to Marlon Garnett and Don "Lucky" Lyle for taking the 2 qualifying spots. My A team did well enough to lock up first place for our Club Fly Series, but not enough to qualify for the big dance this time around. I don't have the score sheets so the following scores are very close to what the final scores were, and quality and depth multipliers I believe are correct.

1st place Marlon Garnett 278 pts. 1.5Q X 1.3D Nice team with lots of potential and several very nice spinners. Marlon takes the 1st qualifying spot.

2nd place Don "Lucky" Lyle 188 pts. 1.4Q? X 1.4D Young team with a few older birds. Exceptional black in this team. Birds acted a little spooked from recent visits by the BOP so may have done more. Nice to see Lucky flying again with us this year!

3rd place Don Macauley B Team 165 1.3Q X 1.3D This team should have been flown in my son Richard's name but I released it in my name thinking I would fly his young kit later but time and Cooper Hawk changed that!
B team did OK but a Cooper Hawk attack sent them up for awhile. Can't complain as my B team was showing signs of possibly landing early as I flew this team later in the day then expected. So while the Cooper may have hurt my chances of qualifying, it also may have prevented me from DQing. We will never know for sure.

4th place(1st Club Fly Series)Don Macauley A Team 150 1.3Q X 1.3D My A team wasn't feeling it on fly day. I had a secure lead on our club fly series and 150 was enough to lock that up. Proud of that but very disappointing to not make the big dance. This team had been putting up big numbers for me but not on this day!

5th place Richard Ruiz 115 1.3Q X 1.3D Nice to see George's son out there flying with us for the second time. Young group that showed potential and we are proud of young Richard's accomplishment on this fly!

6th place George Ruiz 114 1.4Q X 1.3D George's team was well on it's way to a good score but a brutal falcon attack at the 9 minute mark ended that. Timeout was no help as this falcon hunted his team viciously and while it didn't get a bird 4 or 5 came back ripped open. The worst attack I have ever seen. Bad luck for George.

7th place Chris Prince 84 1.5Q X 1.4D Some nice spinners in this group but birds never did elevate to where they could let loose. Late fly slot and hotter then normal weather did not help. Glen really liked a blue check in this team.

Not sure on 8th thru 11th. Angel Ochoda flew 2 teams, one got on the board and 1 DQ'd. Willie Sims flew a team that had some nice individuals in it but went too high. George B team and his son's B team were flown and got on the board. Rest of the kits weren't flown due to BOP threats and time restraints. 12 out of 20 teams were able to be flown. Good participation as Region 14 continues to steadily grow and become more and more competitive, as well as Las Vegas Roller Club jelling more and more and doing our best to make it a fun time each and every fly and get together. Best of luck to all the qualifiers across the nation in the finals. Enjoy your next fly1 Don M.

Marlon, you say now that you are back, but you never went anywhere! You just suffered the consequences of what flying rollers hands all of us, just like I suffered the consequences this fly! Best of luck in the finals. You have the team that can do it and I am happy to be able to compete against them on a consistent basis. These internet challenges are old news- they have been going back and forth but never happen as there always have to be changes in conditions and a price to pay rather then enjoying the opportunity to fly against each other and perhaps the loser buy lunch or dinner. Until some of these challengers, including myself, put up a fly record like the late great Monty Neibel, or Don Ouellette, or consistently in the top 10 of the big flys like Tim Decker then we are all just another guppy in a big school of guppies out there loving the hobby! The guppies in Las Vegas are competitive with the other guppies, and how knows, one of us guppies may just win the big fly in the near future. Everyone enjoy your next fly! Don M. I'll be back!
