I've seen many examples of nicely designed kit boxes on this forum that are geared towards rollers. I was curious if anyone had any good designs for boxes or lofts that are for flying/training racing homers. They being a good bit larger and more flighty than a roller, I know there'll need to be some consideration given in respect to those factors.
If there's anyone out there that could throw some ideas my way, I would appreciate it! Of course pictures would be nice also.
Thank you in advance, Eric

Homers fly out of a loft for exercise and are trapped in through the same traps so they get in as soon as they land from a race for speed to the clock to register there band asap. The loft is roomy not tight like roller kit boxes.JDA

Thanks guys - keep the ideas coming.
I'm already cramped for space and need to keep things as discrete as possible in my backyard. Last thing I need are neighbors complaining.
I probably have a tight 8X8 area to work within. Allowing room and access to the front and/or back I think realistically I'm looking at something around the 4X6 size. The loft front will have to face to the East - no exceptions.
I like the angled roof approach from the link you gave Tony. I'm curious to know if there are any more designs that might reduce the amount of lumber, cuts, and waste.
Please keep the ideas coming everyone. Eric

Hey Eric,
I used to race homers about ten years ago. From your description on your available space, it sounds like it will be a little to tight for racing. Given that size, you probably would only be able to competitively race no more than 15 birds. As JDA says, racers will take up a lot of space. They take even more space once their old birds because they require spacious nest boxes to train for widowhood. I would think that the 8x4 is the smallest size you can get away with. Good luck.

I'm only flying whites with no intentions of "racing" them. I've got about 16 birds currently being flown out of a roller kit box. They're doing just fine, but I know I'll be adding more birds and would like to have a walk-in setup if possible.
My breeders are in a separate loft altogether. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Eric
