i know you guys hate bops but isnt it part of the hobby? i dont like them personally but i believe it keeps motivation in our sport. for example a bop took your number 1 bird, u will try to breed one just like that or even better than that.

It's only part of the hobby because the NBRC National Champioship decided to take hind tit to the World Cup because they fly in the Spring. Our leadership forcess us to fly in the hight of the migration if we choose to compete.I lost 4 out of my comp kit 3 weeks before the finals with my last loss one day before the finals and my birds skied out in the finals because of a SOB sitting in a tree I could not see, it dove in and missed the only high quality bird that it had left me when they were trying to land a hour and 15 minutes later. If we do not move the fly dates the Championship will suffer do to lack of flyers because I for one will not continue to feed the SOBS just to fly comp !

I lost 50% of my young birds this year. That includes locking down for extended lengths of time, changing up flying times and yelling and screaming like an idiot while waving an orange kit flag at the B.O.P. Most of them did not live long enough for me to say they were my best.

I'm having a little trouble seeing any B.O.P. as a motivational tool.

Joe, It's hard to watch your birds slaughtered when all you have as defense are wishes, movies, and a blatant disregard for the way you neighbors perceive your sanity. With practice and opportunity, which I have plenty of, maybe I could bring one of those suckers down! It would be fun trying even if unsuccessful, and it would be a satisfying way to dispel some of my frustration!

I don't think this is the kind of motivation we need. I found this behind my garage today while flying my birds. The coopers was still standing over him. 9bop birds in 2 weeks, I'm motivated alright, right out of the hobby. Tony, If this is to graphic , I'm sorry and you can delete it.

rollinfever.... your idea of motivation is "not" the motivation that I or many of us share. If the BOP are what motivates you, have at it. Your gona be in for a long hard ride....

These are the exact reasons that I left the sport! The first 20 years were outstanding! The last 10 were just too much to handle watching the BOPS destroy a whole lotta work and effort!By 1999 there were 24 recorded breeding pair of falcons in San Diego county alone. I live in the exact area where most of those 24 pair set up residence. I sympathize with all of you I miss the rollers but I don't miss watching them wiped out. Jerry

Oddly enough we have had only a few BOP hits this fall, in previous years they have wiped out most of our kit birds in 4 months, but this year we made it into 8 months.
The roll quality of our kit was just purely poor to say the lest, and they were from the same pairs that in 2007 produced a great kit, but all were lost due to the BOP, this years kit performance was so poor we decided to let the falcon cull them out, we locked down one bird and are still flying the rest and we have only lost one or two, of course they were the better ones but not good enough to lock down. So fly on, so we fly on to help the Poor starving BOP. Yes we are motivated Pacos Bill
