the top of my loft has a sunroof. and the sun shines right into the nest boxs. could this be a problem once eggs are hatched, direct sun light.

My old coop loft had a roof top about 3 by 3 ,I would remove and the breeders would go in and out as they please ,get excercise ,get their own materials for making their nest and plenty of sunshine for the babies.those were the days when I didn't have BOP I'm talking 15 years ago..everybody was well and happy... ----------like Paul said it is good...make sure there is plenty of fresh water at all times... PR you hit a soft spot, I sure miss the days my stock brids had an open loft, and as you say they would get their nesting materials and just enjoy being a rollers teaching the young to fly. thanks for the old thoughts Pacos Bill

I hear you Paco .what a feeling watching pops and mom flying with their young.one happy family...no BOP...flying two or three full yrs before mating..
Fontanabound just put something to shade a little if you think its too much direct sun.use your own discretion.. Ralph. Pigeons are not our whole life, but they damn sure make our lives whole!" ~

fontanabound....what time of the year do you breed?? If the temps are high, like in the upper 80's or 90's then I might consider some sort of light cover. But as long as you have "good" ventilation I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If it is direct sunlight during the middle of the summer..just like windjammer said...that is not a good thing....they dont need direct sunlight...just sunlight....My skylights are white in color and not clear...becuase when they were clear....it got WAY to hot for the birds...but I live in Nor Cal..
