Would either region be interested in allowing the Southern Nevada region to fly with you in the 2010 World Cup prelims ?

This is a great chance to add more qualifyers to your Region by adding 12 or so Kits.

We will pay the judges flight ticket in and out of Las Vegas airport and put him up for the evening.

If anyone is interested please contact me at 702-238-2640.

Also you can pick the Judge or we will pick a Judge,

This offer is also open to the Los Angeles and San Bernardino Regions.

The problem with adding you to our schedule in Utah is that it takes too long to judge our region as is.
It takes fours days.

Thnaks for saying something, I wanted to, but did not feel I was in a position to do so. It is to bad we do not a few more flyiers further south. Then a jusdge could start north and work his way south. BUt still, 4 days in Utah, and then 2 or 3 in Las Vegas would be tough to schedule someone to judge.
Good luck George

Hey George, talk to Roy Pena and get his thoughts about flying with us or us flying with you. He's the Arizona World Cup Regional Director.

For sure, I'll tell Gary "Hi" for you and we will definately see you in February. I'm bring muffed Jaconnetes for your show!!! It was a lot of fun last year, not too far to drive to spend the day and there's nothing like that going on here in Arizona. We enjoyed hanging out with some great Roller people. Thanks for the invite.

George,
I am curious as to why you want to join up with another region? You have enough flyers to have your own qualifier. Having your own region means that you are guaranteed to get a visit from the WC finals judge. Why would you want to risk that? I appreciate Brad's generosity, but in our region we would all have to vote on a decission like this. We will be holding our annual business meeting on January 16th. If you haven't found another region by that time, I will be happy to present your request to our members, and let them decide. The problems that I see, are the amount of time for the judge, and last time your area flew with us, we were expected to get the judge around. But if you are willing to help with transportation, and you can help with a judge that has that much time, then maybe we can make it work this time. Please remember, it is not up to me or Brad or RT. It is a decission that the region would have to make, and we will be meeting in January.

The reason we wanted to fly in a bigger region is so we can fly against tougher Competition.

Everyone knows our region is a small one and we just wanted to test our skills and Luck in a bigger region and see if we have improved our Birds and our training ability's.

Thanks Guil

For several years we were able to fly with Utah as we tried to build Region 14. The last time we flew with Utah was Fall Fly in 2006 with 5 of our region finishing in the top ten flown and 2 of our region taking 2 of the 4 qualifying spots. For WC 2007 I was informed by Utah that they had voted not to have us fly with them. I respect that decision but what changed logistically from 06 to 07? We paid for 2 kits for each of our fliers, 1/2 the airfare and I even came out of my pocket with a cash donation to the Utah Club. Guil is right, if we fly our own little region we are garaunteed a qualifier. But we aren't looking for a garuanteed qualifier, we are looking to compete at the highest level we can and by flying with a strong region like Utah or some of the So. Cal. regions we accomplish that. What a great feeling for our small group when we did so well with Utah. Utah is very competitive with a number of respected fliers-including 2 master fliers! Mr. Winward took 3rd this Fall Fly! We are not looking for an easy way to the finals, we are looking at competing with the best fliers that we can.
When George discussed trying to fly with another region we never were concerned with losing our garuanteed qualifier. Marlon, George, and I are at a level where we can compete with the best so we are looking to do just that. We have a few up and comers that hopefully can keep their program in order and within the next few seasons also be at that level. When we do well in the finals it gets discredited by some as they say how easy it was for us to get into the finals. Also if we expand into other regions we have more opportunities to meet other fliers, and have more fun! Also by combining our funds we benefit from perhaps a judge from farther away in the country coming and sharing knowledge and their experiences. We know it's a risk that doesn't have to be taken by giving up our garuanteed qualifier, but the potential gains vs. that risk are well worth it in our mind. For World Cup we will be in our 3rd time flying as our own region and have used up our 12 kit allowance. That allowance is for new regions that pay for 15 but only have to enter 12. So we will now pay for 15 and enter 15 and either bore the judge with filler kits or end up with more DNF. If our region can't create a win-win situation with another region by flying together then it just isn't meant to be at this time. We will push ahead with our group and continue towards our individual goals of winning the WC or NBRC Fly, and continue with our club goal of everyone involved having fun. Enjoy your next fly! Don M.

George and company

If you want a little friendly compition, why do you not place a friendly challange to the other clubs. Your best 4 guys against, Az or Utah, or So Cal. That way it can be done in a weekend, we can see some good kits, and so can you. One area fly on Sat the other on Sunday.
It would still be a lot of travel, but if you could fly a few team by noon or one you could make the other area that night and drive home the next day, and be home at a decent hour.
Just an Idea.

Just want to make sure you realize that I do not speak for the Utah Club. I do not hold a position in the club, and I live 100 miles form the nearest flier. I am happy that they support me and come to my house for the WC and NBRC Championship fly.
I would also add a thank you to Guil Rand. Everytime I make the 100 mile drive to Utah County, he makes the drive back to my place to see, and help me with my birds. Even if I provide numerous chances for him not to come out here.

Anyway good luck George, and Vegas Fliers.

Don and George,

If you are serious about the possibility of flying with the Utah Region, I would suggest you contact us directly. I am tired of having this discussed in front of the whole nation. It is not a national issue. Lets discuss it person to person, or club to club, and see if we can work something out, but not in a public forum. If you want to continue to make it a public issue, I will guarantee that I will do all I can to disuade our members from considering joining the regions. If you want to make a "formal", personal, request to join with Region 7A, then I will present it fairly to our region members for them to consider at our January meeting.
It is up to you,
Guil Rand

Guil, there was no intent on my part to slight the Utah area or any of their members. Also, my response was independent of any discussion with George regarding this as well. I did not post it as a Utah/Las Vegas issue. I posted it as an example of the challenges smaller regions go thru to fly. When a small region puts a certain percentage of "ghost kits" or DNF certain people attack them as cheating, even though the results are within the rules presented. But when you look at it overall the percentages are not much different then the bigger regions. All my articles submitted to the NBRC in the past regarding Utah and their support of our region are nothing but positive. So if in my frustration of stating facts of what one small region has gone thru contradicts that then I apologize. There is no intent to creat bad blood between 2 regions as that would defeat the purpose of flying together. There would be no fun in that. In the future I won't use specific regions in stating examples on this public forum. I'll just put Region A and Region B so I can contribute to the discussion without any perception of making it personal. Seems the past year changes and proposed changes are not supportive of the smaller regions and their efforts to participate in these flys. Hopefully with new officers, including you as VP and myself as NBRC Region 14 Director, some things can be done differently to support all regions regardless to their size. I look forward to participating in that effort with you and the others. Enjoy your next fly! Don M.
