If one bird has landed leaving 19 birds still in the kit; does the scoring stop once another (one) bird becomes an out bird or does it still take two out birds to stop the scoring even though one bird has landed??
This is MY read on it. The bird that landed counts for one outbird. The next bird that is considered out stops the scoring until it returns to kit. ---------- Just My Take On Things

That's how I understand it. After the first bird lands, any other bird not in the kit deems the kit unscoreable until it returns to the kit formation. ---------- DJJeffman Spinners

Come on Nick, this is Competition Rules 101. Your read on it is correct, why even ask the question? You have been an RD long enough to either have known the answer to that question, or you should have asked the fly director, or any experienced comp guy, way before now.

I knew the answer, but many others do not and it is a way to get people involved in a discussion to understand competition and the rules for it.

Well, you know who Ty Coleman is and nicksiders. Your name is a secret and it is hard to take anyone seriously that we can't see or don't know who they are.
You can keep your secret if you want, but it would be nice to know who we are talking to or about(LOL). ---------- Just My Take On Things

Nick I also think questions about the fly rules are interesting. And getting flyers to actually think about the rules, can often times lead to learning experiences.
What I think you are getting at is that many times flyers learn the understanding of the rules, not from the rules themselves but "interpretations of the rules" from other flyers, judges and RD's. If that interpretation is flawed or correct, it gets passed down by word of mouth. What I see, sometimes, are vast differences in the implementation of the rules, from region to region and judge to judge, due to these differences in interpretations of the same rule. If the rule is understood correctly by an overwhelming majority of the regions, there is nothing wrong with the rule. But where mis- interpretations are found, the correct meaning of the rules simply needs to be "ENFORCED". There is the rub, who wants to be the enforcer? How do we enforce rule interpretations? Can a judge be wrong in his interpretation, but use the "integrity clause" to impose his "take" on the rules and his sense of what is "right", on the understanding held by a majority of the flyers? Who judges the judge?
If the "PROBLEM" is the integrity clause, can it be re-written to help solve the problem? Is "subjectivity" encumbered in any way if the judge is asked to score by the rules as written and understood by the majority of those being judged? Should a judge, judge by his standards or the rules' standards? Happy Holidays Gentlemen Cliff

Nick, some guys still want to use the Internet and think that they can remain anonymous while pretending to be an expert and then spend their time lecturing and correcting others. As far as I am concerned, to have any sustained credibility on this site, one has to reveal who they are.
In my view, if x does reveal his identity, it means he has the credentials to back up what he is saying, if he does not, it means he has been fooling everyone and should not be listened to any further. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Tony, I couldn't agree with you more. I assign no credibility to anyone who hides behind a "nom de plume". They should fill out their profile so we know who they are!! ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

Cliff, good points. To sum up what I feel about judging is the judge should only make judgements based on the rules' standard. There are too many who are making judgement calls based upon thier standards and some get very self rightious about it believing thier standards are superior and will do more for the breed than the club's standards. Thier thinking is not only arrogant, but it is flawd; wrong; and counter productive towards growing interest in the club and its activity.
Birds and kits are developed in each backyard according to the written rules and standards and along comes a judge with a different set of standards using some different rules. Interest will begin to wane if this is left unchecked. What good will become of it if no one is left to compete because thier interest has been drained from them? ---------- Just My Take On Things

Oh I have the "credentials", Tony. My good friends on here, all top roller men, know who I am and know why I need to stay incognito. Scott has already vouched for me in a post a few months ago, and everyone on here knows that he would never let me get away with anything, if I couldn't back up what I say.
