I notice when feeding pellets that the birds, take a break and do a weird movement with their crops(like they are having a hard time swallowing). I've seen all age groups do it. And some times if they eat to quickly the pellets seem to get bunch up in the back of the mouth, so they shake their heads to spit it out. Are pellets just so dry that they slide down the crop slowly, causing the birds to do a ungulating motion with their crops. Is this anything bad?

Thanks

That is gone as soon as they take water.

Pinwheel,
I wouldn't worry about it unless they started choking. Try shoveling your dinner down as fast as your kit birds eat and see how well it goes down. LOL

You ever eat corn bread with out drinking anything? Then you would know what is going on with your birds.Just make sure they have lots of water at all times when feeding them.JDA

I dont seem to have this problem. I guess because I leave pellets in front of them all the time. They don't have to scarf it down.

Pinwheel, I have seen birds do it with seed mixes also. I don't see it as much since I changed over to the Nutri blend green pellets.
JDA, I agree keep water in front of them.
rollerpigeon1963, Are you leaving pellets in front of your kit birds when you are flying them?

JDA,
The fancier i got my family from feeds all his birds the green cut 50-50 with milo. The birds eat it all and like you said there is no waste. I used the gold in the past and don't like it as much as the green. I haven't tried flying kit birds on it yet. Are you feeding it straight to kit birds or are you cutting it?

Ok, I have the green and gold pellet, im feeding the squeeks pretty much 100% green, and the flyers 50-50. but I dont fly often enough to really see how they fly with feed cut or not.

Thanks for the input. They have plenty of water...

My birds honestly like the gold a bit more, and will eat that first when it is cut. I notice thers a size difference, gold is bigger. Even the squeekers seem to eat that first when I mixed some in.

This is one subject that will "never" come to any conclusion.... Way too many differences of opinion and too many brands and type of pellets on the market to choose from... Personnel, I like the pellets for "breeders" only. Buy again, too many different
"types" of pellets to choose from.

I agree with you Paul I tried to feed my kit birds the Nutrena Purina Green but i couldn't get the fly time out of them so now i mix it with grain & wheat I;m sure that pellets work for some but here in New England the weather must have something to do with it too. Dennis
