7:43 AM Ty - Like I said before, you and I agree on more than you believe(LOL). Really the only disagreement we have is the color thing and I have gotten past that(LOL). I still don't like it, but I finally recognize that it is here to stay. Hell, I might cross some Pigmy Pouters with my hottest rollers and see what that would look like in a tumble.....interesting, huh?(LOL)

Nick, I didnt want to hijack the other thread but I wanted to respond to this post.

I have argued with you guys on the rare colors on rollers for a long time and don't get me wrong I like the pretty colors but it had no bearing as to why I chose to fly the particular family of rollers I fly. My first bird in this family was a black pepperhead and I had no clue as to what a andalusion or reduced looked like all I knew is they were better than I had ever seen. And as far as trying to cross the pouter don't waste your time. It is harder than trying to rework a stiff roller family, you have got to know what you are doing to make it work.I tried to take a color that was already on a roller that was stiff and make it roll and failed.

Ty, I am not going to waste my time with the Pouter thing. It was a tongue-in-cheek sorta thing. I understand what you have and there are many fliers; good fliers; who are flying andalusions and other colors with great success. I respect your work in this hobby and would like to see more young people as involved as you are. I also respect your toughness that very few possess.

Nick, i knew you were kidding , I just wanted to stress the point of crossing for color was easy, but to get it to roll was almost impossible. It takes a master breeder and new guys should not attempt it at all.
We had alot of fun with Scott when he was down on the color issues also. My wife had my 3 year old daughter tell Scott about andalusions and opals. Scott said that was child abuse ! LOL I also told him I wanted to get a picture of him holding my reduced white bar hen to post on RPDC and without hesitation he said sure, what hand do you want the head in and what hand the body. LOL I decided to not try that one being she is a great producer LOL.We also talked about the great color wars being over but we both agreed that we missed them. LOL

There were no losers. I would think it was a good sharing of information. I certainly understand the positions of others better. I doubt all questions were answered to make everyone happy but still, it was a good "give and take" discussion. I am sure there will be questions in the future and maybe another round or two, to warm a dull cold winter's night.
There is no end in sight, where interesting topics of discussions are concerned, in this great hobby of ours.

Ty, one thing that I have noticed is if you are following the roll in your family the color schemes will be all over the place. If you have all selfs, and you breed tight if there is any white or whatever in the background one day it will pop out, and if it has the goods you have to use it if you follow the roll.

You guys knew that was in gest - I hope. All winners, no winners, same result. Nothing really got accomplished besides some hurt feelings and a line drawn in the sand for people to stand on either side of. At least we're all still standing.

Jay - very great insight! The irony in your statement is that the same would apply if one was breeding strictly for color. The oddities will pop out no matter what you're doing - IF - you're breeding strictly enough.

Thanks,
E
