Sporting Pouters
Commonly known as Thief Pouters and because there several breeds that make up the thief pouter activity we feel Sporting Pouter better supports the category. There are competitions in this sport that are growing in popularity within the United States. The males of this category of performance pigeon possesses an incredible sex drive. He sets out to thieve the females away from other lofts by pressing her into a mating. Scoring in competition is accomplished by the determination and success of the males with each bird being identified and graded by a judge.
This sport is the most popular pigeon flying activity in Spain. It consists of releasing a hen marked with a white feather attached to it tail. Several cock birds belonging to different breeders are released and the cock bird who brings the marked hen to his loft is the winner. Many of the breeds are excellent flyers having Racing Homer crossed into them decades ago..
The following are the breeds of pouters that take part in this sport:
Colillano Pouter
Jerezano Pouter
Marchenero Pouter
Murcian Pouter
Spanish Horseman Pouter
Spanish Laudina Pouter
Spanish Owl Pouter
Valencian Pouter
Deportiva Pica Pouters

I was the viceprecident,of the Spanish pouter club here in So,California,i competed with the Deportivo sporting pouters for 10 years. In our club, like many others,we scored the fly's,by the aggressiveness of the cock.We did not compete like the old stile in Spain because our members live too far from each other, and having the cock take the hen home would be almost impossible. Some of the ways we gave points would be,the chase, meaning did the cock stay in the chase the hole 60 minutes or did he wonder off. Topping of the hen and flying away in a circle would by points because he tried to lure her away from the rest,if she took off flying, that would be additional point because he succeeded. There a fun breed to have, but like many other breeds they take lots of time. Hector Coya

Buck - It is a wing clapper. To get altitude it claps it wings and when he get to the altitude it wants it places his wings virtical above its back almost touching each othe and then sails through the air. When it looses altitude it either lands or begins clapping it wings to regain altitude. ---------- Just My Take On Things

Hector, There was a guy that lived 3 blocks away from me in Whittier that was in the Spanish Pouter club about 15 years ago. I forget his name but he was from Cuba. He would stray in my dumber youngsters once in a while. Maybe you know him?

I guess even pigeons have pimping ways, in a way. The only difference I can see is the pigeons do not want to let any other birds touch their property once they claim it.... ---------- DJJeffman Spinners
